Note: I dont have a problem with gay people.
Anyways I just picked up a pack of beer and was made fun of because it was light, sleeman light to be exact. Im canadian, so its 4%, i beleive it is less in the states. Anyways it drinks awesome, even the bottom of the can tastes alright.

Hell no, light beer is no where close to gay. I live off light/lite beers.

light beer is not "gay" or inferior to other beers persay. basically, you can drink other beers to be cool and classy, but light beer gets you just as drunk and is my primary choice. bud light, coors light, miller lite, whatever. non light beers that i like, warsteiner dunkel, guinness stout, jack daniel's. oh, i like whiskey too. it's obv not beer, but i like it.
btw, does anybody know what the alcoholic content by volume is for beer in the u.s.? i know here in kansasland if you buy it at the gas station or grocery store it says 3.2% right on it. but buy it at the liquor store and it doesn't say anything. i've had arguments about this before and never came to a conclusion.

that said, i do occasionally drink light beer. Like when im in some shitty backwater place that only has domestic shit, then i'll generally get miller lite.

I j/k about Arrogant Bastard Ale. It actually sucks, imo. But a beer you have to be able to say you've had before.

In the UK we don't have a history of light versions of regular beer, but they are beginning to arrive - most of the major lager brands, Carling, Stella, Becks etc. have introduced low alcohol/carb versions - the Becks one is a genuinely groundbreaking 2%, presumably aimed at people old enough for ABV% not to be the main reason for drinking. I haven't tasted it, and it's only just arrived, so it'll be interesting to see where it goes.
Until the last few years, there was a real trend for beer to get stronger. While 20 years ago only "foreign" imports like Stella and Kronenbourg were 5%+ in alcohol, it's now sometimes hard to find anything less than 5%, so it's a real plus for those of us who drive, or get hangovers more easily, that this is now changing.
However - it's all slightly academic because, really, there's no need to drink these mass-produced fizzy lagers at all in this country. Any good pub will have alternative brews on tap, and while there are some nice lagers out there, it's bitters and ales that really offer both variety and interest. I'm sure banging on about real ale will be even more deathly dull than the rest of this post, but it's a true joy of living in this country that there are so many local, traditional beers out there.

Why would anyone choose to drink lite beer? Real beer tastes so much better it's not even close. If you are that worried about calories drink rum. If you are just drinking to get drunk and don't care about taste, drink rum. But, if you are drinking beer because it is awesome and you love it, then don't skimp and get a lite beer, get a regular beer. And get a good one.

The problem with "real" beer is that they tend to be so filling that its borderline impossible to drink more than 3 in a quick period of time. After about that many i feel like ive got a gallon of liquid in my belly, and that doesnt happen with light beers.

The other thing is - when I am out in a pub, I know how much I'm likely to drink at my natural pace. So if I want to drink my regular x pints, but I'm not 21 any more, a lower alcohol beer allows me to do so without feeling I'm having to hold back.

Light beer = less calories, less alcohol. Also fills you up less, but it tastes like crap. You're better off mixing Grain if your just drinking to get drunk (better price/alcohol ratio).
To Bigred I think, I personally threw down thirteen Harpoon Brown Session Ale's in a marathon beer pong session (undefeated, son) on Friday night and I still had room for 4-5 slices of pizza during it.
Only reason I could see for choosing between good stuff and trash is price, and if $3 is a big deal for you, you should be drinking Olde English anyway: "good" beers ($8-$9 for a 6pack) and "light" beers ($6-$7). Plus if you go to a bar you're paying obscene amounts anyway; seems penny wise and pound foolish to go with subpar alcohol.

In Canada, light beer is 4% right? (coors light, bud light etc...)
And all those beers like Corona and Brahma are 4.5%. That's not a very big difference...
Light beer is good for those nights when you want to drink a lot and not get bloated/tired.
IMO, light beer tastes like ass, and when I want to have a beer I go for taste not to get drunk.
If I want to get drunk I get whiskey.

I don't get it? Is it not just a matter of personal preference? Some people genuinely prefer light American lagers. There are obviously people who don't. I don't see how it's much different than liking a particular make of car, liking certain types of women or a certain type of music. It essentially amounts to little more than arrogance to think that you're more discriminate in your taste and those that have other preferences are drinking an inferior product.
Light beer is what it is. It may not have the same body, aroma, taste, etc. of other beers but it's not supposse to. It's like laughing a Chevy Cavalier because it isn't a Ferrarri.

those 3.2% beers are found in states that still haven't updated their laws
(18 year olds used to be able to buy beer but only the 3.2%)
th regular liquor store will have the normal alcohol level beers(4-6%) and the gas station, convenience store and grocery stores can only sell 3.2% beer by state law
when i lived in colorado that was how it was done

Light Beer is ghey. Beer is meant to be warm when you drink it. Light beer is nasty when it's warm. Cold beer is stupid. Good beer, and drink it warm. That's the right way.

I used to drink Bud Lights when I was nervous about getting fat. Then I read somewhere that the difference in calories b/w BudLight and Guiness is something like 15 or 20. So F that weak noise

Yeah, but those seemingly negligible calories really do add up. That difference is per beer. If you drink 1 or 2 then yeah, theres no difference. Drink 10 or 11 like I usually do when I go to pound town, and thats on a slow night, thats ~250 ish calories you save. Not to mention some beers are 40-50 calories higher than a light beer counterpart.
Even tho your probably over your calorie count after 10 or 11 beers, considering its a good 1300 calories, you are still not as far over as you would be no normal stuff. And I like it more, drink so much easier.
