Wish me luck, it's going to be tough, but I don't want to be smoking now I'm getting older, its more owrrying about cancer and my health is becoming more and more important to me.
My GF doesn't smoke either and when we eventual have children I don't want them around a smoker.
I usually quit, but only last 3 months (this has happened for the last 5-6 years) but it feels more serious this time. I'm using NRT so hopefully it won't be as bad .. .
ILL KILL YOU ALL!!!!
On a serious note i'm not sure what to do about poker for the first week, I smoke like a trooper while I play. I think I'll have to play with supervision from the GF, hehe to make sure I don't get tempted.
I've also got to quit drinking Beer for a few months as I can't drink without a smoke.
O well here's to a healthier lifestyle *Raises Orange Juice* Cheers.

Best of luck Toasty. I went cold-turkey about 18 months ago. You never quite get over it (I find when I'm out in a pub is the worst time for cravings), but the longer you go without a cigarette, the easier it gets...

yeah, I always quit to the point where it starts getting easy and then one day i'm in the pub with some mates and BANG!
"I'll just have one or two with the lads as a one off"
I'm in a serious relationship with a non-smoker this time though so I'm hoping I don't give in as I'm going to have to quit sooner or later.

Good luck. My brother has 'quit' a few times and it never lasted for more than a few months, mainly because nearly all of the people that he knows smoke. My advice would be to not be around people when they're smoking, at least not for the first month or two, and especially if your GF (or someone similar) isn't around. And make sure your friends/co-workers know that you're trying to quit, it'll give you that much more support.

Thankfully I've never smoked one cigarette in my life, I hope I never will, it's not a particularly nice habit to have.

I tell you. If chain smokers looked on the outside, what their lungs look like in the inside. They would all quit smoking.
Same reason I gave up chewing tobacco. I "saw" the results of extended use. Black gums and lips. Cancer of the mouth. Just wasn't worth it.
Good Luck. Remeber you are doing yourself and your family a great service by quitting smoking. :P

hey man way to go!! i myself am day 3 without smoking grrr dont touch me sorry nic fit. but one of the best pieces of advice i found was youll never truly stop being addicted to nicotene, youll never get rid of the want, but you have the power to rid yourself of the filth and giving in to addiction. and theres also a pretty good site for motivation its www.quitsmoking.com good luck and remember your in control

A few years ago my mom was dating this guy named gary. He was a life long smoker and he had a heart attack which almost killed him. His surgeon told him if he ever smoked a single cigarette again (which would lead him to start up again), that they'd be meeting again.
cheers.
