im thinking of getting one or the other. I heard a new iphone is coming out in the summer but im Canadian so that means it will be here in like 10 months and i dont want to wait that long. I can't get the storm because im with Rogers (Canadian GSM provider) and they don't carry it yet. I was thinking maybe the new curve but theres no 3G and that would be pretty good to have.

I work in cell phones so i guess that makes me somewhat qualified. The iphone is definately a great phone, i would have one but i text too damn much so i need a keyboard. I use a curve presently and love it, ive used the bold for a month and its definately a real nice phone. If the money is worth the 3g and wifi get it. The storm is extremely bad for a blackberry, runs really slow and doesnt have the app support the iphone has. In order of preference without cost being a factor it would be bold, curve, iphone, storm. Again only reason curve beats iphone for me is because of the keyboard issue.

My BB has MSN, AIM and BB messenger. All free as part of the data package under Rogers. iPhone is a gimmick phone for Paris Hilton wannabe's, BB is the workin' mans phone. Get a PSP if you want games to take on the road. Get a laptop if you want a computer and get a BB if you want a phone.

Saying the iphone is a gimmick phone is retarded. It's easily the best phone out there. It covers all my management consulting needs and is great for my personal entertainment as well. The only downfall is if your work uses lotus notes for email, iphone does not support this. It's great with exchange and all other email formats though.

I will admit the keyboard takes some getting use to but I have no problem writing emails and texts.

FWIW OP, the only other phone I'd consider is the G1 google phone. That's pretty sweet too.

Oh, and from a purchasing standpoint, trading up iphones from first gen to second gen (3g) was relatively painless. There were large discounts on the tradein value and plans were reset avoiding any contract fees. Something to keep in mind if you buy the 3g version and then the next iphone iteration comes out in 6 months (5 years canada time).

Blackberrys are ok I guess but I'll never own one. They're ugly, lack a lot of application support (let's admit the Itunes app store is amazing not to mention the new iphone OS 3.0 is going to blow the old iphone away), and they're simply just a business phone. It's not the entertainment gadget that will improve your life like the iphone. I spent a train ride to a client site watching Deuces Cracked episodes on my phone, briefly interrupted by phone calls, only to seamlessly fade into the movie again. I'd marry this thing if I could (or if I could fit my dick into that tiny headphone jack).

Oh, and do not even touch the BB storm. It is a total POS. I had a coworker who decided to get the storm instead of the iphone because he's a "practical" guy and he's wanted to kill himself ever since. The thing crashes daily, takes 15 minutes to reboot, and overall sucks from a platform standpoint. The only reason he hasn't killed himself is BB's lack of application diversity, it lacks the suicide app. He's eagerly waiting its development.

The reason it was so easy to go from the iphone 2g to the iphone 3g was because you paid full retail price for the 2g which meant you could upgrade your phone to the iphone (or any phone for that matter) at any point in your contract. With the 3g its different because ATT is subsidizing $400 of the cost of the iphone which means you can only get a full upgrade after 12-21 months depending on your rate plan. Not sure how upgrading the the iphone 4g or whatever it will be called will be because of this. It is possible theyll still let you right when it comes out even if youre not eligible for an upgrade but its not a sure thing.

As far as a new iphone, theres only been rumors, although im sure it will happen just a date is still unknown.

my iphone just broke. My friend's phone has broken 3 times although they replace it quite happily so I'm not worried cos I'm covered by warranty but after 1 year I'm a little concerned about a phone that likes to die.

I got an iphone lately, and a friend of mine got the bold... I actually wanted the bold, just because I don't care for that proprietary apple crap, but my provider didn't have it, so I took the iphone for 200 less.

But I like it very much. The browser is amazing (better than on the bold), 3g is extremely fast for mobile internet, and you can get a shitton of addon programs through the appstore or cydia (apt frontend for the iphone os.)

Battery life is relatively short if you use it a lot - I recharge almost every day.

If I didn't need a phone right then, I might have waited for the G1 - or any phone with a touchscreen and the google-phone OS. - I used linux for a long time - it's the OS I'm most familiar with - and having a phone with standard connectors, and a completely open OS based on a linux kernel and open SDK would be awesome.

The thing is with the G1 you will be able to do whatever you want it to do - and not whatever apple wants you to be able to do with it... to be fair though, the restrictions they set make a lot of sense for the average user.

The only reason you had to wait so long is iPhone wanted certain things in their deals that the Canadian providers weren't willing to give up. Now that iPhone has reached some sort of deal with Rogers to be their provider it shouldn't show up here any later than in the States.

You went to a shitty dealer. Go to a place that actually shows and demos the real phones with you.

Oh and to all the BB Storm haters: I work in cell phones too (Telus unfortunately) and I love the Storm. I'm using one courtesy of work right now and I LOVE it. It got a software upgrade a couple weeks ago and it's been amazing since then. If I quit working for Telus, I'd probably just buy one.

The Bold and Curve are really good too. I like the Storm better because you get a bigger screen when you're web browsing, but I admit that I miss having an actual keyboard and track ball. The track ball is awesome.

Reasons to get the iphone (over the Bold): you want to have a huge choice of apps (there's a BB app store too but not nearly as good as for iphone), you want to easily sync with a mac computer (my experience has been that it's a pain in the ass to sync blackberries with macs), you want a full touch screen and don't care about keyboard, uhhh I can't think of anything else because I've never used one for an extended period of time.

Reasons to get a BB instead: you like a real keyboard, the track ball rules, you can actually get a replacement battery without having to swap the entire unit (you can't remove the iphone battery), blackberries make email sooo easy (I love having the option of deleting emails from only your handset or both your email and handset ... not sure how it is on the iphone).

Here with verizon they run their shitty software over top of the bb os so it slows it down a lot. There's a way to disable though which I would highly recommend if you get it. They're supposed to be getting a phone that's the same as the bold at verizon so if you're with them I'd wait for that.

It being a "Sprint" phone means the Palm Pre is only conveniently available for purchase with some Sprint plan, right?
