cruelty to animals is a subject i quite love because most people have no clue about it, yet act like they do.
wrt op, it is likely that the dogs were enjoying themselves. dogs are v unique with regards to this type of thing due to selective breeding.

i have have/had 4 dogs and i can assure you, they dogs hate hate hate getting bathed, nails clipped, or anything that has to do with vanity.

i think if you are into this kind of stuff you probably have some major fucking issues. its not normal to tie dye your dog and turn them into turtles. people who do this shit, or put sweaters on them and dress them up and shit are not in any way shape or form doing it for the good of the dog. its pure self interest.

Yes this.
Cruelty to animals in this case is a bit of hyperbole ... this is more like the dog equivalent of crazy parents who drive their kids into beauty pageants, talent shows. The child star phenomenon.
Social services ain't knocking down their doors (usually), but many consider that to be a rather questionable way to spend a childhood. Just like a dog spending their life getting washed, trimmed, dyed, etc. is probably a questionable way to spend a canine life.
