ya, this movie is the nuts. So many nice little easter eggs for tarantino fans. And tarantino is so awesome at drawing out a scene to an incredible length, yet the scene never feels like its overgrown.

very solid move
I get pumped by the opening credits in a Tarantino film, as Boost said so many past-references and stuff that you realize and your friends don't which makes you feel extra cool on the drive home as you have to explain it to them.

I think Pitt was like the 4th best character in the movie, and I'm not sure why I was surprised his role wasn't bigger, guess I just forgot how QT does things.

I just realized what was so awesome about this movie. Sure the movie was amazing and all that, but whats truly awesome is that since it had such a great box office success tarantino is sure to get money thrown at him to do with as he pleases.

d9 was a pretty awesome movie, but I think that it was just a summer block buster with a little something extra. Basterds on the other hand was pure unadulterated cinematic awesomeness.

Saw this last night. Best thing I've seen in quite a while. Landa is so good, he might be my fave Tarantino character ever.
That's a bingo!
Tarantino seems to be making a social comment with this though...odd for him.

Before I get bashed, let me say that I'm a huge QT fan and I think all of his films are very good.
That said I think this is one of my least favorite. I would probably rank it pulp, jackie, bill, basterds, dogs.
I felt like the movie kinda floundered in a lot of directions and that it didn't really come together. Like, the individual episodes I thought for the most part were amazing. The opening scene and the tavern scene are probably better than anything he's ever done. But I didn't feel like the episodes worked together. A small example would be that the fact that operation Kino directly coincided with Shosanna's plot never created conflict or confusion for the characters (or harmony, for that matter). I also didn't much care for the ending.

The ending wasn't very Tarantino-esque to say the least, maybe he's getting soft on us.
The individual scenes were just so awesome but I can see where you're coming from about continuity or w/e. Also, I don't think saying this was behind PF,JB,KB is a slight in the least, all awesome films imo.

meh, no reason for you to get flamed or bashed. You make strong points, however I feel like the near miss of the two plots to kill hitler coming together wasnt for sure a mistake. Maybe the results were not the most desirable, but I thought it would be too sienfieldy if the plots came together at the last moment. I mean, hell, the story of jules and vincent or vincents date with the wife barely have anything to do with, and barely intersect with, the story of the gold watch. Maybe the point was to illustrate how hated hitler was (of course in an almost comical sense) by having two completely unrelated groups of people both plotting to kill him on the very same night.
Also, I really liked the ending, it was very reminiscent of "the bonnie situation." You have the captor who out of desperation becomes the captive, but is in the end set free. Youve got the most important "thing" of the plot riding on the interaction between the captive(s)/captor(s), the brief case in pulp fiction and the assassination plot in basterds. And of course carving the swastika is jules asking for his BMF wallet back.

I would probably like the movie a lot more if I looked at it like a series of vaguely related episodes instead of one film. And that's probably why quentin deliberately delineated the chapters. As you imply, I seem to have no problem with the episodic nature of pulp fiction, but I think that's because its so obvious that pulp fiction is supposed to be received that way (the title alone). On the other hand inglourious's theme has a good bit more focus.

I agree with this. The opening scene, the scene with the apfelstrudel, and the tavern scene are three of the best scenes he's done, but I just didn't think the last chapter worked as a conclusion to all the subplots, where in his best films all the subplots are resolved beautifully. I thought the weakest part was how the lieutenant came into the film screening room and threatened Shosanna. Before that he came across as an awkward kid who did what he had to do when his life was in danger but wasn't proud of it, but it was like QT wanted us to realize he was corrupt like the other Nazis before he killed him off.

I dont hate what he did with the character, but it did feel a little abrupt. And I could definitely agree that it wasnt as eloquently tied up in the end. But then again I think overall the movie did come close to pulp fiction which is pretty fucking amazing.
Btw, Im surprised you put kill bill so high on your list renton. Dont get me wrong, like you Im a QT fan and I think kill bill was awesome but Im pretty sure I put it behind basterds for sure and possibly behind reservoir dogs..
edit: ok maybe rd wouldnt go ahead of bill, but what about death proof? I def think that was better than bill.

I was just thinking about the scene in the projector room. I think it was an interesting ying and yang (cant think of a less cliche way to explain it) sort of interaction. The "war hero" had been elevated to this status and became this charming almost likeable person. But through the events earlier in her life shosanna became a almost cold hardened person. Its not exactly a direct switch, but they are in this way an interesting play on character foils. But in their last moments he becomes the monster he truly is, and she becomes the caring compassionate person she really is when she seems to regret that she shot him and goes to check on him.

I really REALLY liked kill bill. I might even put it over jackie. I'm probably partial so much to jackie and bill because they are the only films by quentin that aren't essentially strings of of amazing shorts (obv jackie more so than bill). I think it is much tougher to create a great film than a series of great shorts, which is why I have so much more respect for P.T. Anderson than Quentin Tarantino.
didn't rank death proof because i haven't seen it. I heard it was pretty terrible from fairly reliable sources and decided not to sully my qt image with it. Apparently it is good though (according to you)?

ha! <3 you george.
renton, I def understand where youre coming from about the shorts vs feature length thing. However while I think difficulty of a task definitely weighs in on how awesome the final product is, its not a deciding factor. And I really cant understand how you say youre a QT fan, yet you avoid one of his movies? I think I liked rodrieguezeshd (fucking spanish..) movie better but thats probably because I have a hardon for zombie flicks. However I think death proof was pretty fucking awesome. Its dialogue heavy like youd expect and its got kurt russel in it. Hes like travolta in pulp fiction, QT has a way of making washed up actors really cool again. I definitely do suggest that you watch grindhouse though instead of watching the movies separately.

they showed this movie in germany? Maybe its only for video games, but Ive always heard that their censors are very strict when it comes to portrayal of nazis.
Also, I just remembered that I was the ONLY person in my movie theater that chuckled in the intro when it said "once apon a time... in nazi occupied france." I mean it was a clear wink at rodriguez..
