Post subject: images won't load on my computer

I suck at computers and I don't know how to search for help on this on google, so maybe someone can give me a head start.
I recently reformatted my desktop and use Windows 2000. At first stuff was okay, but now I can't seem to see any images when I'm at websites. It just forever says stuff like, "(25 items remaining) Downloading picture ... etc ..." in the bottom left of the window. So for example, when I'm on FTR, I can't see the spades in the forum index that show whether or not there's new posts in a particular forum.
The problem disappears if I close the window and open the site again. After a few clicks and stuff, though, it happens again.
It's so annoying, I have no idea where to even start to try to fix it. Help appreciated.

This might be a web browser bug. If you're using internet explorer, I'd recommend switching to firefox. That might fix the problem (or rather, circumvent the problem). If you're not using internet explorer, I'd try re-installing whatever browser you are using.
Of course, the problem might not be with the web browser. It might be a network problem or something, but those problems can more difficult to debug, so I'd try ruling out the web browser as a source of the problem before looking for it elsewhere.

Sounds like it might be a browser security settings issue. Or maybe some anti-virus software blocking images.

Well the thing is, the images show at first. And then they just stop loading. So at the start of my browsing, I can see avatars. Then a few minutes in, my computer won't load them anymore.
