I've just lost my job

My girlfriend broke up with me
I now spend 8+ hours a day playing computer games in my room like a degenerate. I don't want to see people. I hate life

Get constructive again. Put poker aside and get another job. It doesn't have to be great, just find something to pay the bills and occupy your time until you find a better job. Prioritize your life first. Work hard and play poker when you have time. If you get really good at poker then you can reevaluate your life then. If you need someone to talk to you can hit me up at any time. Whether you're serious or not, you should never consider taking your life over anything. Things are never that bad.

im trying to find a job so that i dont have to rely on poker to play the bills each month, and so i can actually take time off to do waht i want etc.
But can i get a fucking job PLZ!!!!!!
Ive been for three shitty anybody-can-do-this jobs this week and last paying like £13000p/y (shit i know) and i just cant fucking get one.
Poker pays fine, but id like a nice grad job just to get started with and whatnot, but fuck can i not even get a dunce's job right now

It'll get better, you know it will. this is variance. Dude your a poker playing salsa dancer with a smokin' amount of life experience. Use this time to get shit done. Hit some casino bonuses, Do some work around the house, get a massage ( the happy ending kind ) and play some poker. Spend a few bucks, have some Xmas turkey and in the new year, drop another hammer.

Downswings happen man, you know that. If your girl left you, then fuck that shit, what good is she. If you shares are dropping, you should short them.
You should pick yourself up, go to a salon or something, get a haircut and a shave, manicure and pedicure (no, its not gay - really.) You will feel good about yourself. Shop a bit, get some new clothes, call a couple buddies (everyone has at least one) hit a bar on the weekend, drink, talk, work game on milfs, your worries will melt away.

Today I did some accounting for a side job of mine. Still don't want to do anything or go out. It's 40 degrees today (what's that in farenheit? 120 or something?) Basically smouldering hot
I'm thinking of spending some time organizing stuff for a special children's christmas party. I've donated to help fund it for a couple of years and they asked if I could help put some things together. So I'm thinking about that. I'm not sure because I feel so de-motivated and I don't want to stuff things up for everyone. I also have my weekly trek to the children's hospital to teach dancing. I really don't feel like it right now but I've made the commitment and I don't want to let the kids down. So I'll drag myself along.
At least it will keep me busy enough to not do anything I'll really regret. I was hoping to really get stuck into poker after exams (why the hell did my upswing need to be the 2 weeks before my exams), but now I might have to re-evalute my goals for the holidays.
Thanks for the support guys. I'll respond to each of your posts when I have a bit more life.

this sounds very similar to my life in late september/early oct. It seemed like everything that could go wrong did. If possible, do what courtie said, stay away from the problems until you can approach them without getting all emotional. It took me too long to realize this.
I was pretty much over all the crap that went down by the time I made it out to boston to visit my freind, but that definately put it way behind me. If you can travel, or just get out, it helps A LOT.

Hey thanks for your concern! I don't think I'm close to killing myself at the moment. I'm low, but not *that* low
I've been thinking about this issue of priorities. I think I'm taking poker more and more seriously and playing higher and higher stakes is getting to me a bit. I still play for fun, and it's still fun to me... but I was really hoping to work about 20 hours a week (ATM I have about 6 hours of piano teaching and 4 hours of uni tutoring and I could bump it up a bit) and play poker for another 30 hours to make a tidy income. But I might need to re-evaluate this.
Of course, I've been through downswings before so it's not as if I can't handle them. I guess it's the combination of all the shit hitting the fan at the same time that's got me. I mean, usually when I'm on a downswing, my shares might be doing well or I might to so OT at my work or shag my sexy Brazlian girlfriend. I definitely need to put off any major life decisions until I'm thinking clearer

Yeah, I think I'll try to surround myself with stuff. I hope seeing the special children and the hospital kids will remind me how lucky I am. I mean I know it on an intellectual level, but I just don't feel that way.
And for the record, I don't mind being "candy"  I've messed with some real maneaters and faced my share of Mrs. Robinsons so... BRING YOUR WORST... I can handle it!

Glad to see you're feeling better. Didn't see this thread until today, so I'm sorry I couldn't give words of support earlier.
You're on the right track. Just make sure that you stay productive and that you see people. Once you get locked away in your house doing nothing, it gets significantly harder to pull yourself out of depression.
Just little productive things here and there, and soon you'll be doing bigger, more productive things and life will seem great again. It's amazing what a little sense of purpose will do for one's self esteem.
Hope you have more fun in the coming weeks and pull yourself out of this 'life variance'  .
