Still fairly aggressive. Perhaps other SnG experts could comment. What's your worst swing? 10 buy-ins seems thin to me.

Good luck man. Glad you started out with a win.

I have been doing the opposite. Skipping the SnG's and Trying for the big enchilada's.

I just finished reading Sklansky's book "Tournament Poker For Advanced Players". It was a great book, I recommend it for anyone that likes to play tournaments.

I think that could be tough, but not impossible. About a month ago I cashed in for only $50, and ended up cashing out around $1500 in less than 2 weeks, playing $20 and up SnG's. Of course that was Very lucky. So If you play well and get some lucky coin flips, it defiantly can happen.

My worst swing has been 11 SnG's in a row with only one in the money, 2nd place. That sucked!! But luckily my Multi table finishes more than covered my SnG losses.

If those were 10+1's, then that would put you at net -$91. About what I had guessed, it lines up with my approx -10 buy-in streaks at ring NLHE.

dude seriously change your plan to 20 buy ins, you can easily hit a bad streak of bad beats to lose your BR. for instance you might place in the money 10 in a row or not place 10 in a row.

not placing 10 in a row is pretty unlikely, i'm sure you be fine rippy, i tear shit up in sit n gos and i am just average player, so i'm sure you'll get a rollin, and hit it big time. let me know if you want to hit up a tourney with me i am always down for that,

If you play enough SnGs its not a case of a might, its a garentee!

Mason Melmuth done an essay on it which includes a huge formula for the odds, the more you play the more likely it is. Take roulette, its very unlikley that it will spin Black 8 times in a row but it happens very often.

Ditto what Toasty said. Also, you seem to be an exceptionally good SnG player (per the numbers you posted), hence you are less likely to run into such a streak than a merely profitable one. If Ripptyde has a lower win rate (while still being very profitable), then he's more likely to run into such a streak. Heck for all I know Ripptyde has a higher winrate and all this is moot. Just food for thought...

Also, for the sake of making a point, is placing once in a dozen SnGs much different than losing ten in a row?

yeah i guess when i look back on my numbers i have gon on streaks of 6 or 8 without a money finish, so it can happen, i am not moving up in stakes so i guesss i dont notice it cause my bankroll is over 1200 now and i am sticking with the 20's, now that i look back i have to agree maybe try to get up to around 20 times the entry before you change stakes.

and on the serious side - welcome back!

i don't have a tremendous "n" for SNG's yet, but my biggest streaks have been 5 in a row out of the money, and 7 in a row in the money.

    kick ass, rippy!

    Hey Rip,

I can feel your pain. After focusing on SNGs and learning how to adjust my play a little, I got to winning a fair share. But I have been on an excrutiatingly frustrating down cycle thats eating me up (and my bankroll).

Between jumping into SNGs without the time or mindset to focus, getting killed by a few really bad beats and finding myself playing way to loose, I've just about lost my perspective.

I went back through poker tracker and found that I was getting beat by some really dumb plays on my part much more than I should. I think that I've been kind of seduced by the rush at the end, when you can play just about anything. As I looked back over the last 20 or so SNGs, I saw that I was starting to loosen up earlier and earlier.

Does anybody know what I mean? When you play ring games, you keep a pretty clear picture of what starting hands you're willing to play. But when you get down to 2 or 3 in a tourney, you gotta play a lot of cards you wouldn't touch otherwise. So all of a sudden 89o seems like the kind of hand that you ought to play with 5 left, then 7. "What the heck" I find myself saying, "I hit the 9 on the flop last game, and the 8 on the turn to take first, IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN"

Anyway, I've taken a week off to get my perspective back, and I'm starting to win again. And I'm back to a game that I feel good about.

I'm In the same boat. I get board playing low stakes SnG's, I need the challenge of the big multi's. I just need one big win......lol. Then again who doesn't? But seriously, I think my problem is that I need more excitement. Playing 20 and 30 dollar SnG's just don't do it. Big deal I win $100. Unfortunately I dont have the bankroll to take on the bigger $200 SnG's. Although I watch them all the time, and I think I could beat them, I really cant afford the risk right now. So I need to win a big multi to finance my higher stakes SnG's.
