does giving blood hurt?
Story: one of my co-workers at the dance studio volunteered his time to do a charity event, a latin dance event and the cause is to give blood (there is a major blood shortage in melbourne). He had a minor accident and can't take part and asked if i'd go for him. problem is, all the dancers will be donating blood.
I'm scared. I'm terrified of needles. I'm sure some people here have donated blood sometime... please tell me does it hurt?

It is uncomfortable, yes, but it's not *painful* as such.
I HATE needles, but for some reason I voluntarily give blood. I think the fact that I hate them makes it somehow feel more noble and self-sacrificing an effort

There's an easy solution. Go. Get really fucking scared as the needle gets closer and closer to puncturing deep within you. Make sure the person taking your blood reminds you not to squirm so that you dont shred your vein and kill yourself, then as you feel that odd pain of thin metal on thin skin and that persistent deep discomfort derived mostly from fear as the needle rests inside your arm, you'll realize that though this is pretty bad and your fear is justified, Im hear now so fuck it.

yah I dont like needles either but its the same as being afraid of heights for me. It just makes it that much more fun and interesting. I dont seak out needles to get kicks or anything, but when I have to go get a shot or take a blood test its kinda 'fun'. Like I get all anxious and nervous before hand and it all builds up.. I dont know I get a kick out of facing my phobias. Most of them atleast, for example Im deathly afraid of being on the receiving end of anal sex, yet I dont think Ill get a kick out of that one..

Im the biggest pussy when it comes to needles but one time I came to school late and got cornered by a buncha hot chicks who got me to deliver blood. Its not bad at all, when its in and stuff it feels like somone pinching you a lil bit.

I had a friend that gave blood and the attendant forgot about my friend and my friend was bled dry. I'll spare you the gory details, but I wouldn't do it if I were you.

After you give blood, don't leave right away - spend some time there so they make sure you're ok to go. And yea, if you go boozing later on that night, you'll be seriously drunk. REALLY drunk.

Ya, I wouldn't suggest leaving immediately. I was late for class when I donated so I took off right after and half-ran to class. Then I felt like I was going to die and I walked home and went to bed to rest up for the party later on, which indeed was a cheap night.

Giving blood all depends on the nurse that takes it. You can have nurses that do it so gentle you dont even feel it then you have others that miss the damn vein and have IVs pop out and shit cause they didnt put them in right and have to jab u multiple times. Chances are you probably won't even feel it. But if you get someone who is mean or doesnt know what they are doing then you probably will. Ive probably been jabbed like 30 times and probably only 3 hurt.

thats funny when I was like 19 or something before poker or anything when I was a college bum and didnt want to get a job I went to a plasma place to get some cash - well when they said I had to wait 2 hours and sit with all these homeless drunks that looked like they hadn't had a shower in years I decided it wasn't worth it and started mowin some grass lol
If I was a chick I'd sell my eggs. They get like mad ass cash for that. I saw something on the news about it once.

Exactly. The person that will be sticking you will most likely be a nurse or a tech that has done in a countless number of times. If done by someone with experience there should be very little pain, especially since you're young and in shape. You probably have prominent veins whereas someone older or that is obsese is going to be harder to do.
Even if the person doing it to you fucks up, it's not unbearable. When they were teaching us how to do venipuncture last year I was stuck numerous times by people that didn't know what they were doing. You can't find many willing volnteers to be stabbed by inexperienced med students so we all practiced on each other. Most people wouldn't let you do it to them unless you consented to let them do it to you, so if you wanted to practice you had to be willing to be stabbed multiple times yourself. Now we get to do it all the time at the free clinic the school runs though and it doesn't matter if you fuck up because most of the people that come in are homeless and it's common knowledge that homeless people don't have feelings.
As for women selling eggs, it's not quite like giving blood. First they have to take hormones to stimulate the production of oocytes. Then to harvest them they insert a large needle through the vagina into the ovaries. Then they basically vacuum out oocytes from the woman's follicles. I dont know much about the procedure other than that but, as with any medical procedure, you also face the possibilty of complications. Hence the reason they're paid more than a guy that just watches a porn and jacks off into a cup.
