Post subject: I regret joining the forum

I've started two posts on this board. I was thrilled to find this place. I was really looking forward to having a new forum to discuss poker strategies. My usual message board is great, but I wanted to get new viewpoints.
So far every reply here is abrupt, sarcastic, rude, and condescending.
I'm really sorry that I tried to share something useful with the board. Especially since I find myself responding in kind.
I hope you give the next newcomer a better welcome.

Partly you are right, and partly you are wrong. The level of discourse around here is often rude and sarcastic, but it is for the most part intended jovially. Some posters have been here a long time and we are all familiar with each other, and don't mind cracking some jokes and laying down some insults.
There's also the school of thought that helpful poker advice is direct and doesn't hold hands or cut slack. You come here for help, you will get straight-up, honest answers that are not particularly nice or particularly mean. They are descriptive and informative, and that's it.
I do think you've had a couple responses that were unnecessarily obnoxious, but that can be laid at the feet of particular posters, not the forum in general. If you're wanting suggestions, mine would be to hang out here longer, get to know the people and the style of humor that flies here, and see if you don't like it better in a couple weeks. If you're not wanting suggestions, fare thee well (and I don't mean that sarcastically).

By the way, I took a gander at your threads just to see if I could look at the responses objectively. Or subjectively. Or both.
Your first thread garnered responses only from Fnord. Blunt poker advice, which is what Fnord gives everybody. I don't consider it particularly rude, but if you do, fair enough. Fnord's probably not changing for nobody. I don't think he INTENDED it rudely, it's just spoken very directly.
Your second thread came off as completely civil. A couple different responses and there was nothing wrong with either.
Your last thread, I'm assuming, is really the one that bothered you. Fair enough. There are one or two posts in there that are typical message board things - this is old news, I knew about this a million years ago, etc. That's just how the interweb works. The comment from 'rilla was intended to be taken like Fnord's comments, I believe: it's blunt, it's direct, but it's not supposed to get under your skin. Believe me when I say, he's worse when you've known him longer. But it also comes off as funny, somehow. Very dry sense of humor I s'pose.
Anyway, sorry for the voluminous response, and sorry if we have rubbed you the wrong way. I believe the majority of the persons you've talked to so far at the very least did not INTEND to run you off with pitchforks.

You're correct. And this post of mine was written while angry. The original post was very interesting and helpful. I didn't actually object to it, though I am unused to the abrupt style. But I can certainly get used to that.

Jmontis being one of the "others" I'm sure.
You know, until that one I had thought your response perfectly reasonable, and was willing to try again. But this kind of teenage bull is not what I expect from people old enough to gamble for a living.
Here's some "tough love" for jmontis: try solving problems instead of causing them. You'll get farther in life. Of course, if you can successfully lock yourself in your room and make all your money playing poker, and don't piss off the pizza delivery boy too badly, I guess it won't matter.

I had offered information in a post, in addition to asking for information in other posts. I was made to feel that my contributions are unwelcome. It's not a good feeling. I don't tell people when I already know what they're sharing, as I think that's only done by people who post for attention instead of posting to be helpful in some way. And since there are posts on this board asking for exactly that information, perhaps these "old news" people could spend their time replying to those, instead of to me?
Different strokes, I guess.

Its a forum, not happy huggy church camp. We help, we criticize, but if you can't take a few people not being cheery and nice, how can you handle being a poker player?
If you can play poker, you can handle a few people being sarcastic and rude. Most of us are nice people but how can you expect a community of people who take other peoples money to overly sensitive to your feelings?

I mistakenly thought it was a forum to help eachother be better poker players. This is not an environment that feels helpful to me.
I have no problem with rudeness at a poker table. I will happily give and receive all kinds of crap there. But I thought this place was not about taking from eachother, but helping.
Somehow "Fuck You" from a guy who is trying to take my money (and failing) is different from "Fuck You" from a guy I'm trying to help, or to ask help from.
I could join in all the crap here, sure. But that's what bars are for. I was here for poker.

You have to understand that most of FTR's 'teachers' will be very blunt with you, possibly seeming harsh.
We're not, we're just trying to help and being very blatant about what you did wrong and what to do better next time is the best way to get advice across to a player.
And if you don't like that, www.twoplustwo.com isn't too much different, if a little harsher.

I have never felt threatened, or uncomfortable at this forum...
and the truth is...even if I did feel that way, what is the point of saying anything about it. The wealth of knowledge and the amount of people who are willing to help (regardless of how they do it) seriously outweighs your personal feelings.
I am not saying you should leave, I am just saying you should lighten up. Telling a whole forum of people that you are upset with them isnt going to get them to change...

Well, I've basically discussed everything I feel I need to discuss to beat low limits. And I can, And have.
I try my best to continually churn our this advice for every round of newbies that come around. If they want to have a discussion about anything under the moon, I'll be there.
For the second thread you posted about PokerACE hud being useful for SnGs and saying at even at the 10s people don't have some kind of dynamic trend. Most low limit players play too loose early and too tight late. You saying they won't shows a certain level of inexperience. But that's fine. Everyone started somewhere. But that inexperience coupled with this thread yelling at us becuase we can't help you shows a certain level of stubborness that you need to get beyond.
We don't need to change ourselves to suit you. We're the guys who have been at 4 tables for 2 hrs, 4 days a week for a year. If you want some tips on how to turn into a winning player, then ask. Don't bitch.
If you refuse to change your stubborn ways, poker is going to be a difficult game for you. It rewards it's students and punishes those who don't understand it. You can't understand it if you're not willing to try and understand it.
Bleh, this is the problem with long posts. I forget where I'm going and don't feel like putting forth the effort to make it an AOK post.
