As a security countermeasure, all clients connecting from *@*.cox.net are now required to give a valid ident response on connect. If you use mIRC, open mIRC options, select Connect -> Identd -> Enable Identd server. You may also need to unblock external/internet port 113 in your software or hardware firewall and/or forward it..

so WTF? i recently installed a new version of mcafee which includes a firewall i didnt used to have which has to be the bastardass culprit. i opened the mcafee firewall options, went to system services and added port 113.

summary: i have checked my identd options and they are cool, i have added port 113 to mcafee's safe list, but have not forwarded anything...?

yah I cant even get that far... Im on my girlfreinds computer out in cali and it wont let me even connect

"software caused connection abort" or something like that.... I looked up the error and it supposedly can be caused by any number of things... so pretty much I have no clue what to do. So Im just gonna wait til Im back home in chicago.

Maybe the mirc ident daemon isn't working properly. Have you tried using another irc client? Like chatzilla or hydra irc?

Do a portscan and check if it reports 113 as open

or you could get a standalone ident daemon running on your computer..
