First off, some things you need to know: I am on meds that can fuck with my heart rate. I have sever panic attacks in some situations, and as I learned today, I have OCD issues with uncertain events - specifically death.

I have a appointment at 1PM to get a protection package put on my car.

12:30: Fuck, I woke up late. I'm going to be at least 45 minutes late for my car service

1:30: Car company calls me bitching about being late...

1:45: Get car in for service. I still haven't eaten anything all day.

3:45: Just start watching Bounce. I get called away right after Affleck is
saved by dumb luck.

4:00: Company finishes putting protection package on my car. Did not give it enough time to 'dry' before giving it back to me.

4:15: I grab a nice 16oz Rockstar energy drink at gas station.

4:30: Car fumes are making me delirious and super dizzy. Yay for a new type of high. (I still don't know why I'm going crazy)

4:40: I almost pass out and pull over. I call Dad in a panic state. I am still on the highway.

4:45: Ambulance is called.

4:50: I proclaim I'm going to die and tell Dad not to take me off life support early.

4:55: Truck pulling trailer blows tire and flys off the road not 100 yards ahead of me.

5??: Ambulance arrives, they are not sure what's wrong

5:20: At hospital, they take me in on stretcher.

5:25: I am getting even higher every minute. I am still dieing.

5:30: Nurse doesn't give me a room, tells me to go calm down in waiting room...

6:00: They register me and take blood.

6-10: Random tests. All come back fine.

10:30: Doctor gives me perscription for Xanax

Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Inside the car they did put something on to protect the color and prevent stains.

apparently my ocd isn't triggered by poker. It has more to do with events that could kill me. I don't really fully understand it.

I'm not 'stressed' in the typical way you all are thinking. That isn't how it works. The whole story isn't really a big deal but I do feel glad to be home today.

Please never post in my threads again. You are by far the most retarded poster in FTR history. You make Rippy look like Phil Ivey.

ban please

Edit: Advertising owns you so much it's disgusting. Do you even know what's in Rockstar or Red Bull? They are an extremely poor excuse for an 'energy drink'. The stuff they put in it had almost zero affect on you, outside the caffeine. Most americans are used to lots of caffeine, so it would take multiple cans of either for it to really affect your heart in a great way. Your post would read the same to an intelligent person if you replaced red bull with coca-cola, because they both are sugar, water, and caffeine. Can you see how dumb it sounds to me, because I know this?

Are you joking, or am I missing sarcasm? If you seriously believe energy drinks have no effect on your heart you are the retarded one and deserve to die of heart failure when those energy drinks catch up to you.

http://www.bandddesigns.com/energy/arch/002117.html

Yes, it's true that most of these other additives are amino acids and antoxidants, but there are sometimes a few other CNS stimulants. And there is rising evidence that some of the amino acids which affect metabolism and heart function may be bad for your heart in large quantities, and aid in creating panic attacks.

It's true that caffeine is the primary offender, but even if you are "used to it", it's a big mistake to pretend it puts no stress on your heart.

I'm glad you are OK.

I hope you have a doctor you see regularly. If you arent already on it, a daily SSRI (zoloft one of the best for OCD) may be a good option, along with a benzo (Xanax) as needed.

I'm not just making this shit up. Here's an article talking about the potential regulation of amino acids because they might be harmful:

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...10/ai_12934050

If you search the web you'll find other resources. I can't find the specifical article that I read a couple months ago that talked about amino acids tht were used for metabolic regulation and how they could cause problems with heart function.

As I said, there is rising evidence that amino acids supplements can be harmful. True, there isn't a lot of research done on them, and more needs to be done to be conclusive.

In any case, my main points were 1) caffeine affects the heart, potentially in a negative way, there is no dispute about that; 2) some energy drinks contain other stimulants, I know nothing about rockstar though; and 3) amino acids can be potentially problematic.

Please never post in my threads again. You are by far the most retarded poster in FTR history. You make Rippy look like Phil Ivey.
ban please
Even if you were correct, there's no reason to be such an asshole to someone that was just trying to help you out.
Yeah. WTF, ItDepends???

You were already on watch when you came back. This just proves you haven't changed with your hot-headed attitude.

Goodbye, doggz.
ugh. I dont want to look like im getting involved here, but this seems a bit harsh to me for a hotheaded outburst that was for sure out of order, but not anything more than that.
Im not arguing btw, just expressing an opinion.

1) That's a rediculous argument. Any substance can potentially problematic. Let's ban water because drinking too much can be fatal. I am admittedly not well read on the subject, but I am unaware of any findings that suggest caffeine consumption negatively affects the heart. I know there is evidence that caffeine consumption is associated with increases in several cardiovascular disease risk factors, such as blood pressure, but that is not what you're saying.

2) That article sucks. Their claims were defended primarily by anecdotal evidence and not supported by any type of credible research.

3) I question your understanding of amino acids and the role they play in human nutrition. If you're afraid of amino acids then I suggest that you radically change your diet and start by elminating any food that contains protein.

When it's in your system, too much caffeine can effect your heartbeat. I found this out one day when I'd been pounding back more than the usual amount of coffee on a deadline. I ended up in an emergency room because my heart was skipping beats and I thought I was having a heart attack.

Doctor takes my pulse and asks, "Did you drink a lot of coffee today? Under a lot of stress?".
"Um. Yeah and yeah."
"Drink less and try to relax a bit. You're fine."

I sure didn't feel fine. When your heart skips a beat it is a very weird feeling. I was fine the next day. I cut my coffee consumption by about two thirds though.

I'll argue for ItDepends, since he can't and I'm sure he wouldn't want you to have the last word

1) Caffeine has mild effects on blood pressure and heart rate in nonhabitual users. In habitual users it has little to no effect. There has been no clear link made between caffeine and heart disease, in fact recent studies suggest that drinking coffee may be good for your cardiovascular health (among other things). For comparison, there's about as much caffeine in a 16oz Rockstar as there is in an 8oz cup of drip coffee.

2) The only other stimulant Rockstar contains is sugar. Like Red Bull, it also contains taurine, but that's not a stimulant and nobody knows what the hell it does. The energy drink makers claim that it "enhances cognition" because it's found naturally in high concentrations in the brain, but scientific studies have only shown is that it might lower blood pressure.

3) Amino acids are what we're made of, and ingesting some of them is essential for your health. You can probably overdose on them, but you would have to ingest massive quantities of concentrated supplements. Rockstar contains two amino acid derivatives taurine and L-carnitine. L-carnitine is thought to be good for you, but there's not that much of it in Rockstar.

Hope this helps, I wasted a good half-hour researching it The best news for us alcoholic coffee drinkers is this:

Quote:
Other research shows that compared to not drinking coffee, at least two cups daily can translate to a 25% reduced risk of colon cancer, an 80% drop in liver cirrhosis risk, and nearly half the risk of gallstones.

Whatever you say. But I too ended up in the emergency room on a caffeine overdose though (from just 200 milligrams, and combined with whatever else in an energy drink).

I wasn't talking about rockstar in particular. I said I don't know about rockstar. I was talking about energy drinks as a general class.

I'm fully aware of what amino acids are. My point about amino acids, I will say again, is that (as large amounts in supplements, not smaller amounts in food) that they may cause problems with heart function. There isn't enough research on them to be conclusive.

But this whole argument about amino acids was a tangent. I agree that it's very possible that the amount of amino acids in energy drinks is completely harmless. Again, my main point was about the caffeine content.

BTW, I am definitely admitting that I too have only done like an hour or two of research on this, and also talking from personal and anecdotal evidence, not a lot of scientific evidence, so yeah, what I am saying could easily be wrong. But google searches seem to support my position.
