Sometimes, a sportsbook will give you a bonus as a freeplay instead of a cash bonus. If nobody knows what a freeplay is, it's a free bet, where you get to keep the winnings if you win the bet. However, the original stake (the freeplay amount) is NOT returned.

Because of this, the best way to use a freeplay bonus is NOT to just stick it on one game and go "woohoo!"

There are two good ways to deal with a freeplay bonus.
1) You can turn it into a cash bonus. However, this will not leave you with the same amount as a cash bonus as you did with a freeplay, but it helps you “guarantee cash” easier.

To do this, find three bets that ALL end in a .5, so that no part of the bet can possibly push. Then, bet all 8 possible combinations using 1/8 of your freeplay. One of them will win (there are only 8 possibilities). Most places will pay 6 to 1 on a 3 team parlay.

This leaves you with 3/4’s of your freeplay as a cash bonus, that you can now wager like a normal cash bonus.

2) You can “swing for the fences” (my personal favorite). Just bet on a huge underdog, or bet it all on a parlay that you like. Chances are, you won’t win, but when you do, it is SWEET. I recommend including no less than 3 teams in your parlay, but no more than 5. If you feel frisky, try including a moneyline underdog, as in a parlay, it multiplies the payout A LOT.

This strategy is based on the fact that you can’t recoup your original stake amount in a freeplay bet. Because you can’t do that, it makes no sense to simply lay the freeplay on a straight bet. You want a payout of multiple times the original stake. And so enter the parlay, or huge moneyline underdog. If you win, your winnings will be a lot. If not, well, it was a FREE BET, right?

Great post! However, I wish I would have read this before I used my free play bonus on DA BEARS.

Yeah.

Maybe I should have been clearer and said what not to put it on:

1) Huge moneyline favorites: you lose so much value with this, it's disgusting.

2) Straight bets at -110 : This isn't quite as bad as moneyline favorites, but is very much -EV compared to the methods described above.

Sorry to hear that you put your on the bears, kling. That either means you A) got a very little payout on your freeplay bonus or B) lost your -11 bet.
