Heres something for you to do if you have some free time, maybe some are trick questions and maybe some are meant to make you think their trick questions
1)
You spell folk -- F-O-L-K. You spell joke -- J-O-K-E. You spell soak -- S-O-A-K. How do you spell the white of an egg?
A. yolk
B. yoke
C. yoak
D. none of the above
2)
3 Hobbits and 3 Orcs arrive at a river bank and they all want to cross to the other side. Fortunately there is a boat available. Unfortunately it can only carry 2 creatures at a time. The Orcs are vicious creatures and whenever there are more Orcs than Hobbits on one side of the river, the Orcs immediately attack the Hobbits and eat them. Therefore you should never leave more Orcs than Hobbits on either river bank. Although the Orcs are vicious, they can be trusted to bring the boat back. Your challenge is to move all 6 creatures across the river without allowing the Orcs to eat the Hobbits.
3)
A monk wishes to pursue study and contemplation in a retreat at the top of a mountain. The monk starts climbing the mountain at 7:00 A.M. and arrives at the top of the mountain a 5:00 P.M of the same day. During the course of his ascent, he travels at variable speeds, and takes a break for lunch. He spends the evening in study and contemplation. The next day, the monk starts his descent at 7:00 A.M. again, along the same route. Normally, his descent would be faster than his ascent, but because he is tired and afraid of tripping and hurting himself, he descends the mountain slowly, not arriving at the bottom until 5:00 P.M. of the day after he started his ascent. The question is this: must there be a point on the mountain that the monk passes at exactly the same time of day on the two successive days of his ascent and descent? If so, provide a plausible demonstration that this is the case. If not, show why this need not necessarily be the case.
4)
Add the follow numbers in your head in the following way. Add the first number to the second (eg 10+1000 = 1010). Then add the third number to the total (1010+40 = 1050).
Continue in this fashion until you have a grand total.
10 1000 40 1000 30 1000 20 1000 10
5)
A couple was walking along a beach one night when they saw a flying saucer land three feet in front of them. As the door to the saucer opened, out jumped this little green man. He greeted the two who then ran away to tell someone what they had seen. What noun would be the best word to describe the little being?
A. small
B. green
C. Martian
D. strange
E. male
6)
True or false, the US space program is famous for the shuttle crashes.

You should never wave at people you don't know, cause what if they don't have a hand. They'll think you're cocky. "Look what I got motherfucker, this thing is useful, I'ma go pick somethin up."

1- the white of an egg (yoke is the yellow stuff)
2- 2 orcs across, 1 back. 1 hobbit 1 orc across, 1 orc back. 2 hobbits across, 1 orc back, 2 orcs over, 1 back, 2 orcs over and all are across
3- don't know the math for it, but no, he does not have to pass the same point at the same time. Due to his variable speeds it is improbable, but not impossible for him to pass the same point at the same time
4- 4110
5- e
6- false

No, a yoke is a crossbar with two u-shaped pieces that enclose the necks of a pair of draft animals working together.

1)D
2) the only way to do this: on first trip, 2 orcs, one hobbit. They cross, one orc comes back with boat. Theres 1 orc and 1 hobbit on other side, 2 hobbits and 1 orc this side, and 1 in the boat. Send over 1 orc and 1 hobbit again, the orc in the boat comes back, picks up the last hobbit, we are all set.
3) sorry, maybe when i have more time
4) *edit* i get it now.
5) Green
6) false. They are famous for faking a moon landing!

only one i'm not sure on is #4, if it is 1010 i think its not a great question, 4110 is a correct answer too.
3 was definitely the best question.

I don't think so. Prove otherwise.
#6, no reason was asked. As a Canadian I took a stab that the US space program was not responsible for the shuttles, therefore any shuttle crashes was not their's

It says to stop when you reach a grand total.

nah #4 is 4110 or w/e he said. Most people get caught up in adding 1000's so they add an extra 1000 instead of the 100.
Rilla is right as usual.

1.) Yolk
2.) First trip, move 1 orc, 1 hobbit on the boat and to the other side. 2nd trip, 2nd trip, move 1 orc and 1 hobbit to the other side. 3rd trip move the remaining orc and hobbit over to the other side. viola!
3.) Yes, he absolutely has to pass one same point at the exact same time. He has to go the same distance in the same time. If there is 1 hour left and he has gone half way, he has to make up for it somehow and at one point he will cross the same spot at the same spot.
4.) 5010? I hope that's right.
5.) C
6.) False

1) t-h-e w-h-i-t-e o-f a-n e-g-g
2)- 0o/0h........3o/3h
o/h boat
h return
10/0h........20/3h
o/o boat
o return
2o/0h........1o/3h
h/h boat
o/h return
10/1h.........2o/2h
h/h boat
o return
3h/0o..........0h/3o
3h run for hills
3) If the man was two men (instead of 1 man walking two days) starting from the top and bottom of the mountain on the same day, they would, of course, meet at one place on the trail at the same time of day.
4) Okay, mmmhmm, uhhuh, okaaaaaay, done! Now what do you want me to do?
5) Nouns do not describe. But if you forced me to, I'd pick "Martian", OK?
6) There have been no shuttle crashes, though some parts did reach the ground.
|
|

1) D. none of the above -> a-l-b-u-m-e-n
2) Eh.
3) Imagine 2 "ghost monks" that follow the original monk's movements exactly. One starts at the top of the mountain and the other starts at the bottom of the mountain at the same time. There will be a point and time when the two ghost monks will pass through each other. This is the point and time that answers the question. There is no way the ghost monks could follow the entire path without passing through each other.
4) The answer must be 4110, since you can't start with the directions (which get you to 1050) and somehow end up with 1000 (a grand) like Rilla suggested.
5) As Rilla pointed out, several of these are not nouns. The remaining options are "Martian" and "male". Since we cannot say for sure if this is a "Martian", the answer is "male".
(BTW, "green" can be a noun ... it just doesn't make sense in this context.)
6) Eh.

He tricked me by saying that 4110 was incorrect, I looked for another trick on words and saw "a grand total" then I thought the problem should have gone 1000+10+1000+20 and he just did the order wrong.
He later edited his statement saying 4110 was the correct answer.
