To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Always at least 5, usually 6 or 7.

Right now I'm working on a paper, so I've got 8.

Right now, 9. I think the minimum I ever have is 4.

Oops, IE users not allowed? I have two IE windows open in addition to Firefox, b/c I'm doing a usability report on a website that, uh... doesn't work in Firefox. D'oh!!

I don't know when the last time you used it was, but it must have been quite a while ago. I rarely come across a site that doesn't work in Firefox. The fact that firefox is faster, has tabs, and is completely customizable with extensions is more than enough to overlook the fact that a small percentage of websites - which gets smaller with each firefox update - doesn't work. If I do come across a website, I've got my "View this page in IE" extension which will automatically open the page up in IE for my viewing pleasure.

eh.... to each his/her own.

Only reason I use firefox is because of it's tab abilities. I usually have 1-5 tabs open and sometimes an IE window open if Firefox is being retarded with a lot of the media files.

Usually like 8 or more.. I try not to go over 13-14 though.

I use IE.. not that it's the best browser. Just what I'm used to.

dont' forget that you can middle-click a link or bookmark to open it in a new tab. Also, you can middle-click a tab to close it.

Opera is great... I used to use it. But Firefox has it beat nowadays because of all the extensions and themes. I doubt any two Firefoxes are same since every user can download the extensions he/she wants and customize it to his/her needs.

Bah... IE is more prone to security flaws and their support of web standards is piss poor. The reason some sites don't really work that well in Firefox is because people had to code sites for IE's bunged up handling of things - the web needs cross-browser standards.

Add to the FF pros: tabbed browsing, built-in script debugger, extensions + lots more

point of tab is obvious, able to run tons of different web pages with minimal memory usage and its convenient as hell. with ~20 tabs (what i usually run, 6 main web pages and a new one whenever the hell i feel like it) im only using 170mb of memory. running 20 different instances of a browser would be wayyyyy more than that.

also, if you use ie, youre either too apathetic or too stupid to care about viruses.
