Is it just me or was The Onion WAY funnier 5-10 years ago than it is today? I thought this article was funny but I've seen a lot of funnier ones from them.

I think they lost a couple really good writers that were replaced by mediocre writers. They still have some good ones though, and they still have some really funny stuff, just a smaller quantity of it than they used to.

I thought you just didn't drive a car while intoxicated to avoid it?

I'd say 10 years ago, not 5. I was a UW Madison student at the time and that was their hometown.
Of course it may also be perspective - as you grow older and more cynical, the level one cynical humor just doesn't cut it anymore.

It's not just an age issue. You're apparently about 10 years older than I am, and I also think they were funniest about 10 years ago. I think their problem was that they got too political, and most of their articles now seem like they're pushing an agenda instead of trying to be funny. Their humor used to be a lot lighter; they'd mostly make fun of stupid, lazy people who sat on their couch all day, and they'd put together hilarious pictures of those losers.

I never understood the appear to fake news either. Maxis pulled it off very well with SimCity so the idea was never novel to me. I also hate most sketch comedy so my opinion isn't worth much.
