I'm feeling left out, as I don't listen to alternative rock.
Does anyone here listen to any sweet hip-hop stuff? If you do list some bands that you listen to..I love finding new music to dig.
Currently in MP3 player:
DangerDoom
Atmosphere - You can't imagine the fun we're having
Ordinary Peoples - Urban Sprawl (Columbus group)

Blackalicious is tight, give Blazing Arrow a whirl when you get the chance. I am also a fan of Dead Prez. These *****s rap about some real shit- instead of rapping about bitches and Hennessy, they rap about how fucked up the public school system is, about de facto segregation, about staying clean, about various social and political issues. They rap from the heart.
I'm also trying to get into Big L, I like what I've heard so far.

big L is the shit. Im into a pretty wide range of hip-hop. I tend to like fringe commerical stuff the most. Like stuff thats commerical, but they talk about real shit. Nas is fresh, I finally got streets disciple a week or two ago. I think there are a lot of gems in the commerical scene. There are pieces of shit like cash money, but just because the singles (this is what sells albums) are about money and hoes, doesnt meen the album is. For example Cassidy's album Im a Hustla, has some really good tracks on it. JayZ is a must have. Busta Rhymes, Outkast, M.O.P... there are just too many to list. Just make sure not to turn your nose up cuz you think its comercial.

I'm pretty eclectic in my tastes... I don't like a lot of garbage rap about "Bitches and Hoes" or "Grillz" but I like really thought out lyrics.
Atmosphere is awesome. Jay Z and Nas are musts. I like Ludacris just because some of the stuff he comes up with is very funny. Blazing Arrow by Blackalicious is awesome, as someone stated above.
J-Live is good... there's good rap music out there.... It's just generally not on the radio.

yah Ludacris is fresh, he comes with some super funny shit. Hes that classic talk-shit-to-the-listener mc. I dont know how I made a admitedly imcomplete list and managed to leave out kanye common and talib kwali... I must be going brain dead.
As far as aesop rock and atmosphere an dthose guys go... I mean they have osme ok songs, but so muc hof thier shit is so homosexual. Like I really dont care to hear a buncha words I have to look up. Its like they are under the impression that if they use bigger words they will be a bigger mc. Also all those mcs have emo ass deliverances... they just sound depressed and gay.
Oh and if you want a fresh mc that talks about real shit, pick up some mr. lif tracks. Home of the brave, and earthcrusher and my favorites of his.

Earthcrusher is a sweet song... I haven't heard a lot of lif, but I'm familiar with some of his stuff.
Kanye and Common go without saying. Kweli has some good songs, but he never really struck a chord with me for some reason.

I quit watching tv when I play now, I just listen to my itunes. Man I love this shit ... seriously. I never had been super into music before. I never really bought music, I always liked hip hop, underground and commerical. But now that Im listening to it all day everyday, Im really getting into it. Hip hop is an amazing medium...
btw Lucifer from The Black Album just came on while Iwas writing this... this song is sick... I love female voices as the chorus or in beats...

Pre-Elephunk and whatever they got going on now, I loved the Black Eyed Peas first two albums before they went Pop.
(Doesn't hurt that I used to know the guys really well during that time too )

gabe you heard that new M.O.P. single? I didnt like the main song or whatever but the "flipside" track was fresh I thought, its called "muddy waters". Real chill beat and stuff.. check that shit out.
As for J5, I used to be into them a lot, but then I bought 2 of thier albums and really listend to it. I still like some songs, but its like.. "hey look its hip hop, but even your white ass can listen to it" sounding... I dont know if that makes sense. But it just feels all sugar coated, like some shit some hipster would listen to. Like I said, they have some pretty cool tracks, and musically they are fresh, I just think it at times sounds like 'umm-bop" (you remember those queers?)

Ok thread Hi-jack here...
Everyone list your ten favorite hip hop songs ever.
I'll go first:
10. Today was a Good Day (Ice Cube)
09. One Mic (Nas)
08. Makeshift Patriot (Sage Francis)
07. Satisfied (J-Live)
06. Bring The Pain (Method Man)
05. Can I Kick It? (ATCQ)
04. Elevators (Outkast)
03. Sing For The Moment (Eminem)
02. Song Cry (Jay Z)
01. CREAM (Wu Tang)
There's probably 20 others that are in my top ten of all time... but those are the ones I currently have in heavy rotation on the old Ipod.

I thought Ice Cube was labels as Rap and not hip-hop. I like rap, but not hip-hop. So, what is the difference and how can you classify between the 2.

i look at it like this...all hip hop is rap, but all rap isn't hip hop. like lil jon makes rap music, but its not hip hop. hip hop artists are still 'rapping' in their songs, so i consider it rap music

Define the difference between Rap and Hip-hop? Why? I kinda group them together. If you don't... more power to you.
Whether or not Today Was A Good Day is a Rap song, or a hip-hop song... I don't know. But I know it's good. And dammit, that's all that matters.

there are 4 elements to hip hop:
djing
bboying (break dancing)
graffiti
and last but not least mc'in
Just because you rap doesnt make you an mc or hip hop. A lot of silly kids like to blanket all commerically succesful mc's or rappers as fake, and not hip hop. This is just retarded, if its good, its good, if its hip hop its hip hop, no matter how much it sells. Common is hip hop, So is NWA.
my list
walk this way: rundmc
adrenylin rush: twista
We dont care: KanyeWest
Guns N Roses: jayz
lucifer: jayz
Whats happenin: methond man busta rhymes (on tical: the prequel)
Cold as ice: MOP
non phixion anthem (dont know song name.. chorus spells non phixion)
suicide bounce: nas
sorry know thats probalby more then 10.. but I could just copy and paste my whole itunes list in here...

I've been listening to the new A.O.T.P. album and I love it. Got pissed off in traffic on Wednesday and started playing it loud with my GF in the car. She looked at me and grabbed her iPod, clearly annoyed.
Besides AOTP I can't really vouch for any recent releases. I'll listen to the new Jeru The Damaja album on my way home just now. Havoc's album ain't all that but it's still better than that southern crap. No offence to anyone but most southern hiphop is garbage. Give me Chino XL, JMT, Apathy, Reef The Lost Cause, Killah Priest, Akrobatik and some other dope artists and I'll rock that shit
