Hey all, we've just started Operation FTR Poker Dictionary. The goal is simple, to create the largest, most comprehensive poker dictionary ever imagined. Of course, we can't do this just ourselves, so we're looking for help from all our members.
Remember when you were brand new to online poker and the crazy language you encountered? Well, now you can help those noobs learn our lingo. Whether you want to define a basic poker term like "nuts", or define your favorite poker hand nickname like "Big Slick", or even internet forum lingo like "qft" which we use here at FTR, anything goes as long as it's poker or FTR related and helping to build the FTR Poker Dictionary.
All definitions are tracked to their creator, so you will get credited for that entry. Yes, so that means you become a more "valued" member of FTR with every entry you add. Now, it's not just about post count boys! Soon, your contributions will also be visible under your profile page.
Here's the URL:

Thanks all, we appreciate your help!!

BUMP - The first FIVE PEOPLE to have 50 approved submissions will receive their choice of free FTR Gear! In order to claim your prize, please PM me and I will verify. Please make sure you follow the directions exactly on the http://www.flopturnriver.com/poker-dictionary/ page so your entry will be approved. Any grammar, spelling, or incomplete entries will be denied (we don't have time to edit all of these.)
NOTE - Those who are found guilty of just copy/pasting from anywhere, even other articles on FTR's site, will be forfeited. Don't go crazy copy and pasting random acronyms or definitions from elsewhere. All content must be UNIQUE and INTERESTING!!!

I looked over a few entries and they looked off. I suggest you get someone to check all these.
Also, i think it would be cool if you could link the terms to a post that uses it. For example the term Float could link to a post about floating or that contains a few references.

For editing purposes to tidy wording/etc is it best just to edit using the form at the bottom?
Eg - the first item - A chip and a chair:
Quote:
The term is associated with Jack Straus, winner of the 1982 WSOP Main Event. The story tells us that at one point Jack was sure he <strike>is</strike>was out of the tournament, but it turned out that he <strike>has</strike>had a single chip which was hidden from view on the table. He sat back down and managed to win the tournament.
Example: All you need is a chip and a chair.

Just a quick example as while I'm unable to verify the lingo with much of it new to me, I'd be interested in helping spot typos.. Is there some sort of versioning system so corrections can be reviewed in case while correcting typos the meaning is changed/lost etc?
Finally, in regard to references, in the above example say WSOP, tournament, chip, whatever.. How are they mentioned in the entry so that it knows to use the URL, and if we're inputting a URL do we use an explicit or relative url (IE just /poker-dictionary/term.php or full domain included)
Hope to be able to help a little bit..

This is true, we're working on issues with dups, near dups and accuracy. I like the idea of linking to posts that use terms.

Hal - Thanks for noticing these errors, yes there are some typos and grammar issues present. It is hard to edit every single submission that comes through. The easiest way to fix it is by using the edit columns below. When someone makes an edit, we see it in the admin panel and can either ignore or apply the edit.
You should use a reference link if the credit for the definition is not yours. For example, if I submit Bad Beat and know what a bad beat is and everything is in my own words, there is no need for a reference. But let's say I enter a result for a WSOP tournament or something, you can link to the WSOP page on their website that contains it. That's just one example. You should include the full url, with http://www. and the domain.
Thanks for your help!!

Cheers GMML - I now understand what the reference boxes down the bottom are for. Is linking to other entries in the wiki being done automatically? Because I noticed some are creating links back to themselves... looks like a step left out of the checking for linkable keywords that does not ensure && keyword != self.keyword
Take a look at Bonus for example of this behaviour.

Hal, we'll take a look at the self referencing issue.
We can use the References fields to link to an applicable forum topic to further discussion.
533 definitions and still growing!
