I learn most of my history the lazy way, through the history channel and random stuff I run into online. Sometimes you get lucky and they have something on the history channel about cool stuff like this. But the sads truth is main stream culture is still too scared of the black panther movement to give it too much airtime. Also there are a lot of other cool subjects that are less shrouded in mystery (this subject because its black listed, not because its a secret soceity or anything) that are easier to access. So I end up learning more about romans and WWII.
Suprisingly the dave chapelle block party movie had a lil part where this black panther guy was in it, it was pretty cool.

Seriously Boost, i'm a big fan of enabling people in their shortcomings, so to enable your laziness, here is some more information.
Tommie Smith was the gold medal winner and John Carlos the bronze, in the 200m sprint.
And boy, did they ever get in trouble for this one, as i'm sure you can imagine. They were kicked off the national team and were banned from even crashing in olympic village for the rest of the olympics, received death threats and the like.
The really cool thing is this: the idea of this protest was backed by the OPHR (Olympic Project for Human Rights) a coalition founded by John Carlos and others originally started to boycott the olympics by black athletes that morphed into the idea of bringing light to the injustices of black americans with nonviolent protests. If you look closely, the australian sprinter Peter Norman, who won the silver, has the same patch, an OPHR patch, sewn onto his jacket as his way of participating in the protest. It's funny, because you might think he looks scared and uncomfortable standing next to them, but many were of the foreign athletes were 100% behind them.
Anyhow, it's a really cool and powerful image, I have it on a t shirt and i've seen quite a few posters. Meh, history lesson for the morning, I'm done.
