How are things, Tyson? Are you still working for yourself? Playing poker full-time? How are the poker winnings coming along?

Hey man, everything is really good. Yeah, still working for myself. FTR takes up a lot of my time. The site's become so popular that I've been busy selling advertising space, working with affiliates, etc. I went from a Director of Technology to a salesman...I'm off to Vegas in a couple weeks for the CAC (Casino Affiliate Convention) - a "business trip"

Of course I'm involved in other stuff, particularly investing in real estate. I sold two rental properties this year for killer profits, bought a 4-plex in Arizona, and am considering buying another property in Arizona.

I am not playing poker full-time, but I am still playing and doing well. The ring game was getting tired for me so I've been practicing on my tournament game. I've been improving. I just started really practicing this month - I played a couple cheap MTT's, placed 4th in one for $250, and I've been playing $10 SnG's for practice. I took my $200 bankroll up to $800 this month solely practicing these low-stakes tourneys part-time. Probably time to increase the stakes and take on better competition.

I don't need to play poker to pay the bills, but I like the idea of earning my vacation budgets through poker. I'm off to Tahiti next month with my girl, I reserved one of those over-the-water bungalow huts for a week.

Anyway, I'm going to continue practicing tourneys, I really want to try to satellite my way into a WPT or WSOP event. And, at the very least, buy into the $1,500 NL WSOP event next year.

So, that's my update. At age 34, I never plan to go back to a corporate 9-to-5 job. I'll pick up the stakes and play poker full-time before that ever happens.

I'm enjoying my time right now, life is good, I've gotten into reading novels - haven't really done that since college, completed this D&D game Morrowind on XBox, been exercising and dropped 6 pounds, working on FTR, and playing poker. My priorities keep shifting around and I'm coming back around to playing poker more seriously again now that the FTR facelift is just about complete.

Still meaning to hang out with Fnord too, who moved down here to Southern California.

Well, I guess that's me in a nutshell.

Nice! Glad to hear all is well. Good luck in all your dealings and AMEN to doing your own thing!

My ex-wife has recently moved with her new husband out to San Diego ( since I am in Ohio and that's a long way away from my sons). So, I will be making trips out that way to see my 2 sons. I'm not all that familiar with California so I don't really know where all of you guys are in realtionship to San Diego, but maybe we can hook up sometime and play some cards!

Jim,

Sorry to hear your sons are so far away. That's gotta be tough. San Diego is about a 3 hour drive from where I'm at. Fnord is almost between us. We should definitely plan something if you have the extra time to hang out. Or from there you could hop over to Vegas (50 minute flight) - check out my post in private message!

Thanks. Yeah, it's rough having them so far away. They were here with me for 3 weeks this summer and that was absolutely great! I miss them alot.

If I have extra time when I make my Cali visits I'd love to get together.
