Over the last several months I have noticed a marked reduction in the posting of some of the early members as well as some of the premier posters of FTR. It seems that guys like mike4066, ripptyde, BoondockSaint, Toasty, soupie, Radashack and even Fnord (to a certain degree) post pretty infrequently. I, personally, have also decreased my posting frequency as time has progressed and I think I was member #10. Even Tyson, Eric and Xianti (while definitely keeping up to date on the site itself) do not drop by the forums much anymore unless it is administrative in nature.

That being said, I would not say that the content of the poker discussion has suffered as many of the new members have made great contributions to the forums and the poker discussions. It just seems as though there has been a "changing of the guard" in the posters on FTR. Perhaps this is just the natural progression of things as people move on. Perhaps it's just a product of FTR's growth over the last 1 1/2 years.

Any thoughts? Am I imagining things?

I agree, next month I will have been here for 1 year. It seems like quite a few things have changed since begining my journey, which has seeemed much more than a year.

Just the natural progression of things. Since new posters won't search the archives, they'll have to ask the same questions we asked and hope some other new poster has the same answers we have (or better).

I am a new guy and I am so in debt to the posters of the FTR 1st generation! I actually did a search of all posts by many of the 'old' guys

Alot of us that have been here a while have started posting less in order to let 'rilla feel he is accomplishing something great. He hasn't quite caught fnord yet, but its coming soon.

It's simple. Pre-rilla is old. Post-rilla is new.

Yeah, I've dropped off in a big way, now I spend my time working on this site and maintaining it rather than hanging around in the forums. The forum has gotten so big it's hard for me to keep up. I remember when I used to read every single post. And then I skipped one day and noticed, damn, this thing has gotten pretty popular - I couldn't keep up anymore.

Anyway, one thing is still the same - the quality of people that visit and decide to stay are still the cool kind of people we want here. Think of the thousands of people that visit - and we've had only a handful of a-holes looking to cause trouble. We're still giving, learning, and having fun, so yeah the players are changing a bit - the original SuperFriends have been replaced by Rilla - but it's still cool.

I used to post when there was just the forums, with real-time communications offered through IRC and Ventrilo, I hardly ever post. Most of the original people hang around on the ventrilo server, or are chatting on IRC. Lately, I have been trying to come back and post some though it's just communication evolution.

I've gradually increased my posts throughout the ages, I just love posting here. It's been a great year for me at FTR.

I've been spending a lot of time unpacking and working on the redesign. I still check the forums every day though(assuming I'm near my computer).

I've been here about 2 months now.

I have at least scanned through every post in the strategy sections, and I kinda figured out who the big guns are here by doing that. But someone coming in here new who doesn't take the time to do that would have little idea of who soupie is, for instance.

I think most people will see who the authors of certain sticky posts are, and figure those are the experts. So someone new here is pretty much gonna see 'rilla, aokrongly, rippy, davsimon, etc.

Either way, this is a great forum. Everyone is very helpful here and my game is improving.

And now I have something to do when I'm at work.

So true, I love reading and responding to posts while at work. It's great that there is other people doing the same thing because then I have people to talk to!

I noticed it, just like you said. I felt some disappointment when I first clued in. But, I agree, it is the naural progression of things, and there are sharp folks answering posts still.
I think I posted on this before, but I suspect some of the daily community among older posters occurs on chat? Is that true?

Humph, you there?

Yes, you can refer to the sticked posts about ventrilo and IRC in the community board. All of the older posters that you guys are referring to are there.

Personally, I'm now too busy maintaining the peace, integrity and general friendly atmosphere of our community to contribute real strategy content... (not that I'm any sort of poker guru.. I've learned more from the heavies here than I've ever contributed).

And, as 'rilla suggested, many of the topics that newer members query about have been covered before. That's just natural.

We'll always evolve. But I will make sure that our forum will always be interesting and continue to have great content -- whether it's from the "old guard" or new.

That being said, many of us admins and moderators are dealing with some lifestyle adjustments right now (moving and career changes, most notably).

I hope no one took my original post to imply that I thought FTR was suffering in any way. I still come here every single day and contribute whenever I can. I also think that the current set of contributors are just as high caliber as the older set. I had just noticed that it didn't seem like many of the original contributors or heavier contributors had been around much anymore and wondered what the reason might be. I suspected that it was just the natural progression of things.

FTR is still heads and shoulders above any other poker forum/site out there in my opinion. I love the site and wish you guys the best in the continued growth of FTR.

Many of the best and brightest minds rarely if every post here anymore. But they are ALWAYS on Vent. That's probably a great place to go.

Wow I didn't realize that I'd only been here a few months... Wow

Yo jm - yeah long time no talk it seems like - the only reason I even happened to catch this is because I got sick when I got back from my trip and you cant skydive plugged up or the altitude change can cause some serious problems including popping your ear drums in extreme cases.

This is what happened to me. I made a bunch of money - now im doing the things I love but never had enough surplus money to do before.

I should be back more once end of summer comes around. Summer just gets busy for me because I screw around so much outside and leave pretty much every weekend.

If u search my posts youll notice a huge gap in posts about this time for me last year too. I think I didnt post for like 2 months or more when I was off jumping out of things.

Im still the same ole whore though. I still clear every bonus from party and empire when they come around unless Im on vacation and dont get back till they already expire.

Yeah. I remember all the early post whores we had. Then rilla' shows up and the shit just went all downhill. The dude must have like 16 fingers. The old guard couldn't keep up with him. Then to be outdone by a prepube adolescent was just too much to bear. So they went into hiding.
There really is too much for my old eyes to take in. So I basically stick with moderating my section. Community, SNG's, and that special place we call the joy luck club.
