OH MY FUCKING GOD HOW IN THE FUCK DO YOU NOT MAKE WEIGHT AT 140 WHEN THEY MADE UP THE WEIGHT CLASS FOR YOU JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
For those who are ill-informed or have no idea what I'm talking about, womens' MMA does not have a 140 pound weight class, only 135. EliteXC made up a 140 pound weight class for Gina Carano to fight at because she had so much trouble making weight at 135 and she is their poster girl to a large extent. For her fight this weekend, she missed making weight by ~4 pounds.

so is elitexc the one that was on saturday night? my brother-in-law was watching one with some guy that was called the new york bad ass or something and he got his ass beat in like 30 seconds. it was lolbad. i dont get into mma at all, but it looked more like wwf than mma.

I enjoyed it but I hated how it was 95% hype and only 5% actual fighting. I wish I would have DVR'ed it so I could fast forward through all of the fluff and get to the real stuff.

Kimbo Slice is a true badass but he's not a good MMA guy yet. As a stand-up fighter he is awesome, but on the ground......well, you saw that.

It's her job to make weight, and it's VERY disrespectful to the promotion and especially to her opponent to not make weight, ESPECIALLY when the weight class was created specifically for her so that she wouldn't have to cut to 135.
If I missed weight by 4 pounds even just wrestling in high school, I would have been in a world of shit. I wrestled at 135 and 140 and walked around at 150ish.
Missing by 4 pounds at a 140 pound weight class is the equivalent of saying "Fuck you, I'm not even going to try, and there's not shit any of you can do about it."
On Phil Baroni, he has one of the nicknames that I absolutely hate ("New York Badass").

Like I said, my wife looks badass at about 145 and 5-9 but an ultimate fighter she is not.
I understand that she had to make weight or whatever, that she knew she had to make it and didn't, but this isn't the only thing she does and she's pretty honest about that.

I settled it by saying that me, a man, used to wrestle at 135.... after regularly cutting 15-20 pounds? But yet a professional athlete can't do this? Why yes, I believe I did.
Regardless, this has nothing to do with how she looks or whether or not this is the only thing she has going for her in her life. She had a responsibility, and she didn't take care of it, and in the process she disrespected a fuckton of people.

A day late and a dollar short, but whatever, I'm at the mercy of an internet firewall at work where I do 90% of my posting.
So MMA has this grand chance to show the general public what a honorable, legitimate, professional sport it can be. And Gary Shaw decides to go WWE on the fans asses. I'm not saying that the UFC's TUF is any better, but their main card PPV's are lightyears ahead of that shit EliteXC put out.
Gina is too caught up in the "Hollywood" world right now. If anything, she should call MMA her hobby now. Either way, a poke in the eye to Scott Smith gave her fight of the night in my opinion.
Kimbo is deadmeat against most HW's with a ground game. Shit....Lesnar can probably whoop his ass! No fucking way Kimbo stops his take down. Mir couldn't even stop the takedown. Big Nog and the others? I won't even disgrace their names comparing them to Kimbo. I like the character they created in KImbo, but the fighter has a lot left to be desired.
Watching Lawler and Smith confirms Anderson Silva is the best 185'er in the universe. Entertaining fight, but if Lawler can't put away a TUF cast off....well I'm just saying.
There really shouldn't be as much hate thrown Kimbo's way I guess. I mean he's only taking what they're giving him. He's smart enough to know that he needs to cash in fast before a legit HW crushes him. Unfortunately, after they way Shaw promoted that show, and the fact that Shaw will go back to having him fight cans. Kimbo's popularity will inevitably turn on a down Swing. Tank Abbott anyone? Tank had the same Kimbo hype back in the day and the UFC whored him too, until it had legit HW's to whoop his ass. I think Kimbo's smart enough to see the writing on the wall. I don't question his heart at all, I'm sure he'd fight anyone regardless, but how long before shoe drops?
If anyone cared, the very next day. The WEC put on a very god card on the Versus channel here in the Northeast. That is what the public should have witnessed. Faber vs. Pulver was an instant classic.

I think Kimbo is in a weird position himself, and you can't really say that it's his fault all of this is going on, though it is fairly ridiculous how the Shawathon is going, but that's life. It's not fair that because of the Shawathon hype that he's being somehow compared to top heavyweights and all that. I mean his fight against JT was what, his third or fourth fight? Unfortunately for him, his progress as a fighter seems to be at odds with the promotional aspect of the situation. In any event, I think in a few years he'll be in some sort of proximity to being a top 25 HW, but he's still new to the sport.

I think Kimbo is in a weird position himself, and you can't really say that it's his fault all of this is going on, though it is fairly ridiculous how the Shawathon is going, but that's life. It's not fair that because of the Shawathon hype that he's being somehow compared to top heavyweights and all that. I mean his fight against JT was what, his third or fourth fight? Unfortunately for him, his progress as a fighter seems to be at odds with the promotional aspect of the situation. In any event, I think in a few years he'll be in some sort of proximity to being a top 25 HW, but he's still new to the sport.

Exactly! For Kimbo though, his star will wane before he becomes legit due to the fact that:
A- He'll continue to fight cans and pad a record real MMA fans will come to despise.
or
B- He'll say fuck it. Fight legit fighters and lose. Thus becoming the next Tank Abbott who only wins with a punchers chance.
For Kimbo, time is not on his side.

Bas is a great trainer, but a legit take down defense for him is still a few years off. He's 34, Antonio Silva is only 29 and has had a ground game since birth (Brazilian Birthright, lol.), lol. So Elite's HW future resides in Antonio's lap once Shaw figures a way to promote him.
