I now no longer think Benjen will be found a White Walker. They kinda killed doing that right with the zombie reveal in this ep. So now IMO Benjen should be some kind of alive and hiding. Maybe the WW didn't kill him for some mystical reason, maybe they don't even know he's out there just barely hiding

I also feel like the Lannisters shouldn't be strong enough to beat back the armies of the north and what should become of the Baratheons and Arryn loyalties. It shouldn't be much of a competition, so far the show has made it seem like on the main land the vast majority of the loyalties are Baratheon/Stark. If the story goes this direction I expect them to still make the Sansa/Joffrey marriage for purpose of peace so they can battle the Dothraki with unity. I would write it as the Lannisters slowly start losing, but Ned goes out of his way to make peace to end the bloodshed and prepare for the Doth. I mostly roll really traditional lines in storytelling though

LF and Varys look to be two opposites of the same coin. Both smart savvy tricky powerful etc all in the same way, they want the same thing but opposites. Varys wants war between Stark and Lannister so as to usher in the Dothraki. LF is the only person who knows he's conspiring with foreign dignitaries. LF, OTOH, wants peace and thinks the best way to do that is Lannister rule. This is because he won't have much power under a Doth rule. Looks to me like what Varys does is for the benefit of the Doth, and what LF does contrasts that

Wow, I think that is the most false post you have ever made.

Varys carried out Robert's orders to have Dani killed. The wine merchant's poison failed, but Varys is in no way working for the Dothraki. LF just wants power for himself, he couldn't care less about peace, and as far as everyone in Westeros knows, the Dothraki are not a threat as they do not have ships and have never crossed the narrow sea.

We'll see. Varys carrying out the orders doesn't have to be what it seems. Daenerys dying or just an attempt on her life would have the same effects its had. How do you explain Varys becoming noticeably uncomfortable when LF mentions the foreign dignitaries?

LF is indeed looking out for himself. The best way I see him doing that is by Westeros peace. This was strongly suggested in his convo with Ned where he's noticeably upset with the "so it's Stannis and war?" IMO, that's when he decided to turn on Ned
  6. #106
also i thought it was varys who arya saw walking through the dungeons talking about killing the hand of the king and the lion and the wolf going to war etc

edit- in the book it doenst hint that it is varys at all but in the show it sounded a lot like his voice and he was fat.
  7. #107
yes that was varys. the show suggest that was the meeting/convo lf knows about too
  8. #108
Apparently over on Television Without Pity, several posters are running a strong similar line to mine on the Varys/Dothraki invasion thing. FWIW, the Completely Unspoiled Speculation thread is much better than the 2p2 one. I almost don't wanna read it because I think some of their macro speculations are probably very accurate. A bunch of pro-TV goers or something

I know at first I said I hope they roll some awesome mysticism/mythology, but now I don't. They're doing such a tremendous job with a human drama battle over power, I honestly don't like the fact that it appears creatures and powers will be brought into it all. It's like you get several episodes devoid of anything mythological, but then it appears some of the most important stuff that happens will be the mysticism stuff. Should be two diff shows, but we'll see.

meh, I think the zombies are awesome and don't feel forced on the show. As long as people don't start casting fireball spells and riding dragons, I'm cool with it.
  10. #110
I'm mainly referring to speculation by people who don't know what's going to happen, but it makes a whole bunch of sense and they might be right

So I guess I'll post it. Possible spoiler, but not a confirmed spoiler at all. It's only a spoiler if it's true and it figured out where R.R. Martin is taking the story

***The idea is that the dragon eggs don't hatch until Winter for mystical reasons, and that dragons are the only thing that can kill the Ice Zombies and White Walkers and all the evil from there because dragons have fire. This may be what has happened since the beginning of time in cycles, the "song of ice and fire", the interplay between the monsters of the north and monsters of the south, and the human "game of thrones" is in a way filler. This makes way too much sense to me that I bet it is true. It would mean that things probably take a backseat to dragons and WW and possibly Daenerys becoming "what she truly is" and also speculation that Jon Snow's mother is a Targaryan (which would explain Ned's behavior), and he might also be a dragon***

If this is true, I don't like it because it's a different story than the human battle for power, and I love that and want it to be paramount

Ya, that .gif is great. In the 2p2 thread there are a bunch of arrested development GoT verticals that are awesome.

As for the speculation, I thought it was confirmed in an interview that there will not be dragons/wizards/fairies. But that doesn't mean that actual dragons can't be replaced by the Targaryns in your speculation. As for Snow, I really don't think he's a Targaryan, but I don't really have anything to base that on, so w/e.

Sidenote: funny that "aryan" is in Targaryan.
  13. #113
yeah dude do you know the source of the GoT AD stuff? Shit is funnier than it should be

I feel like I want Ned to die by way of public execution at the order of Joffrey/Cersei. That's hard to swallow because he's such a hero and fan favorite, but it's also the right way to write a story like this IMO. You gotta make the real hard decisions that reflect reality instead of fantasy justice, and replace the fallen hero with a new hero (like Robb)

I love Ned in the story though, but Hollywood-esque storytelling sucks

Ya, I'm with you man. I don't think Ned will die, and on one hand I don't want him to, but on the other I think it would probably make for a better story. I think there are ways to write it where he doesn't die, but the writing is as respectable as him dieing... I just think its much more difficult.. third levelish, yanoe?
  17. #117
On the flip side, I feel like they're not gonna kill Ned. It's fucking Sean Bean and he's on the cover. Some posts over on TWP are really making a case for that too. Like how the Sansa pleading wouldn't have happened if Cersei wasn't looking for a reason to spare him. A post made on there included

You can't kill Ned Stark because the Northerners like only a handful of things and Ned Stark is one of them. Kill that guy and they'll be hell to pay.
which I think sums up what I said at first about how they can't kill Ned

I mean, they certainly can't kill him this season, so I guess that would mean they can't kill him in this story arc. And I think Cersei can try to get Ned to bow to Joffrey, but also reserve the possibility that she will have to kill him if he doesn't kneel.

Side note: her constipation faces were bugging me in e08.. not enough to ruin the show, or even for me to dislike her as an actress.. but it just felt a little silly when she would give Sansa those "I've gotta poop, but it just wont come out." glares.
  19. #119
i wish i could post in this thread still, but after reading the book its just not right to do so =(

as for last episode i think the zombies are kinda lame, show had enough going that they didnt need zombies...any normal crazy creepy monsters would do, but iguess we knew they were zombies after the first scene of the show when that girl is dead on the tree and then shes got the white eyes or w/e (that scene doesnt even happen in the book), i just didnt want to accept it.

how fucking gangster was it when Drogo ripped out that bitches throat?!

    whoa..

    I'm still in shock.

edit: ya I really appreciate that this show isn't scared to man up and do what has to be done to tell an amazing story. I think the last 5 or so episodes have been the best episode yet up until the next episode came out. I know we still have one more episode to go, but I feel pretty confident in saying that this is the greatest season of a show to ever be broadcast.

This was the ep they submitted for the Emmy's, I think.

Very pleased. I love how the author gives every reason for the logical course of action, but then human things get in the way.

Not particularly pleased with the blood magic stuff, but that's just because I keep getting the feeling it's going to impose itself on a better story. But R.R. Martin has shown so far that he knows what he's doing, so I'll let it go
  24. #124
Oh I understand the blood magic thing now. Sorta. Her baby's gonna be born in that shit, and there will be something very special, perhaps monstrous, about him/her

What's the rumor about ep 10 leaked?

I wish I could think about things like others can but I typically just regurgitate cool things others find.

For example, 1st episode, Ned beheads a traitor with his sword (same sword used to behead Ned although the episode did a poor job of explaining that) even though the guy had good reasons for what he did and was only treason by the day's fucked up logic.

Then, later that episode a stag and the direwolf go at it (Ned and Jamie(?)) killing each other and leaving just puppies behind. Just some cool parallels.
  27. #127
the stag was the baratheon symbol (lannisters are the lion)...and him (ned) going down to help the stag (king robert) ended up killing him so it was definitely some foreshadowing....i knew that it was going to be a bad omen, i just didnt think he actually was going to die.

also im pretty disappointed at the fact they did not show how badass the imp was in battle...in the book he killed 2 niggas in an epic fashion, instead we had to watch 10 minutes of that sweet drinking game -____- (yes i know hearing that story about his dad and the whore was key for char development, still would have liked to see some actual battling)
  28. #128
As Drogo was dying, I was getting the thought of the epicness of him dying yet Daenerys somehow retaining power. I doubt it will happen because I can't figure out a single plausible way to write it, but that would be a slam fucking dunk if R.R. could pull that shit off. He would have to truly bring out Dany's greatness of character to get it done. She did excellently in this episode, even. Only way I could think of getting it done would involve Jorah being her champion and defeating all comers, but that doesn't flow well at all. There would have to be something we don't yet know about that changes things. So IMO they can't kill of Drogo yet because without him they lose half the story arc

Best I've seen yet on Jon Snow is he could be Raegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark's child. I think that would still qualify him for a Dire Wolf, and all the stuff about Ned and his bastard could be explained as well, as his honor probably would have led him to keep the secret from even his wife. If it's true, I'm guessing the Targ at the wall knows, but doesn't yet realize he knows.

For some reason I feel like Arya needs to be gradually morphed into a fan champion. Down the road, she needs to kill a Lannister or two. Perhaps she will kill The Mountain in a sort of battle where all his great brawn can't stop a Needle of Braavos slipping through his neck

I feel like there shouldn't be that many White Walkers. Maybe like twenty or so, maybe even fewer. They should be bigger faster stronger smarter than humans, and feel no pain, but their greatest power is in their evil necro powers. I feel they need an epic fight scene between one WW and brothers Mountain and Hound. There has got to be a reason the Clegane's are written as beasts among men

Hodor, at the direction of the captured Wildling girl, will save Bran from an Ice Zombie, I bet. He's got giant's blood, after all

You just had to know Ned was gonna lose his head when he was gonna be sent to the Night's Watch. That would be some awful writing to put his character up there IMO. Much better to martyr him. Robb is an even better character though IMO

I feel like Joffrey's about to get his shit pushed in. He's not gonna wanna give anything up to save his uncle Jaime, but then Cersei will tell him about the twincest. And Grandpa Tywin might have to choke a bitch for killing Ned and fanning war flames. Joffrey can't be king for long. He's young and stupid, and signed his own death warrant with defying his elders' wishes by killing Ned. Power and loyalties are Tywin's, he has zero friends other than the Kingsguard (sans Barriston's cake carving ass), and guys like LF and Varys will probably try to find ways to get rid of him now. He can't be controlled, he has no real friends, so something will happen to him. Would love to see the Lannisters go Fredo on his ass, but doubt it'll happen like that. Could simply just be something like Tywin/Cersei et al hatching a plot to reign his ass and make him a good boy

The pImp's new girl is Dothraki. She's gotta be. Her conversational behavior is impressively blunt. That's gotta be for a reason. Not sure how R.R. writes women so damn well. HBO does have a knack for producing better female characters than other networks. Just take a look at Rome's Atia and Servilia. Some of the best character work I've seen, and chicks at that

Part of me was hoping to see Littlefinger be the one to get Ned killed so he could then trick his way into wooing Cat. How awesome would it be for the audience to have to sit through the man who murdered their hero banging his wife? Shit bad like that is standard for life, but nobody wants it in film, for some reason

Will be interesting to see what happens with Sansa. I think she's very hard to write at this juncture because she's become a third wheel since she can't marry Joffrey. I wouldn't mind seeing that marriage forced down the road though, but no Stark would ever even try to make it happen at this point, so that won't happen. I hope it doesn't become a Sansa for Jaime trade. Cool shit needs to happen with the capture of Jaime, not just used as a swap

Stannis needs to show the fuck up. Hell, even Renly and his boi toi need to show up, but Stannis moreso. The man is supposed to be an animal in war, and with his backing, Tywin's army will get steamrolled especially with what happened to Jaime's army
  29. #129
I'd also like to see Jon Snow desert. Everything he does is balls to the wall. After he hears of his father's killing, I think he has to desert to go avenge the murder, and the writers just gotta know how to make it work

I also, feel like everybody at the wall will die. If they don't, the Winter is coming stuff doesn't make much sense. I love Samwell too. Perhaps a little rough at first, but everybody needs a fat friendly insecure smart guy in their life
  30. #130
Also, I had the thought from the very beginning, but it appears others are getting it too

That the witch poisoned Drogo. Perhaps the baby is the real sacrifice. I figured that wasn't the case because Dany took the girls as daughters and I figure they would then try to keep their good fortune, but maybe not

I'm not a super nit, and I am not going to cry about minor spoilers and stuff... I'm in a thread discussing a show that is based on a book... no matter what I will read some shit that is semi spoilerish.

That being said, giving details about entire scenes from that book that got skipped in the show is pretty spoilerish. Not spoiling the show, but spoiling the scene in the book should a show watcher want to read the books someday. I guess it's not really a huge deal, but if you insist on comparing the books and the show, just don't give crazy details... might be better to just say "ya, this/that scene was different/present/not present in the book." and leaving it at that.
  33. #133
I've found book readers in 2p2 thread spoiling more than they know. It's minor stuff so I guess I don't care, but an example will be when a book reader says "oh neato I like how they did so n so's character", what he's really saying is "expect so n so to stick around for a while". Curiously, I didn't see too many of those posts about Ned, and that was part of why I expected him to not be a main character as the story deepens

I can say three characters I'm certain will stay alive and focal for the majority of the series just because of comments by book read 2p2ers. It's not really a big deal though. I find that really smart non-book readers are spoiling more for me than that, as they're getting a lot of the speculation right

I'm still shocked at the beheading. I read this thread just yesterday and decided for myself that this would probably not happen. I just figured the show would use one good character as an anchor for the audience. When the prince's speech about mercy took a wicked turn, the hair stood up on the back of my neck. Wow. One swing of the sword and BOOM!! I no longer know whose story this is.

It truly is like the whole series thus far is backstory so that the audience really understands why there is war marching from the North. Nothing is better than having the rug pulled out from under what I thought a show was going to be about.

Just had a thought. Snow and Jorah will have a face off. Or more like, they will almost have a face off, but Jorah will notice his father's blade, and that will be the beginning of some long and important alliances

somebody getting raped stops getting raped by loving the man raping her. sounds pretty epic to me. that whole side story was one of the best in show, and that line summed it up quite well

holy shit... this shit just got real.

I was wrong about pretty much everything I thought would happen...

I just finished watching e10 and I'm thinking about watching it again right away...

So much to discuss; I don't know where to start.
  50. #150
At the risk of scrunching up my panties and jamming them up my dandy, I'm not entirely thrilled. I find a likely disconnect between "A Song of Ice and Fire" and "Game of Thrones". I want to watch a game of thrones. The story smacked the shit out of every other show on that alone, but the magic and fire and ice seems to be overtaking it all.

I should also stop reading that thread on TWoP because they get most of the big speculation right. Like Arya going to the Wall, Daenerys stepping into a fire and not burning in front of her people, Snow abandoning yet not pulling through, and the eggs hatching.

I think my thing is that I like humanity more than anything. I want to see the human fight over power, but I'm sure that will end up taking backseat to the powers of fire battling the powers of ice. Hopefully it doesn't become a silly duality like LOTR, but who knows

In a way, I feel like it's the easy way out. You know Dany has to cross the Narrow Sea, but with Drogo on his deathbed and the Dothraki abandoning her, it became an extremely intriguing prospect to plausibly write a story where she still gets the job done. But now not so much because oooooh she's magical oooooh she has dragons ooooooh everybody will bow and getting across now will be easy peasy lemon squeezy
