Against that heinous background, my crimes were pale and meaningless. I was a relatively respectable citizen - a multiple felon, perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.

I could watch that all day.
I love the surgical precision with the hockey stick to make him go flying.

lol yeah, it was WAY better live, that video doesn't do it justice. phaneuf was acting like an arrogant brat that game, he so deserved it. right in front of vancouver's bench too, they were probably laughing their asses off.

I assume Ruutu got a penalty for tripping / hooking and the other player got a fighting major for dropping the gloves?

Haha no, Phaneuf got the only penalty, and I think it was for instigating or something. Ruutu didn't trip him, Phaneuf tripped over his own stick all on his own after tossing it to challenge to a fight. They never did fight. It was truly a hilarious moment.

The first time I watched it it looked like Phaneuf fell himself, but on rewatching its pretty clear that Ruutu hooked his leg out from under him and then went to the bench. Pretty damn cheap.

Same here.. I didn't even realize he got tripped until reading some of the comments in the thread.
He definately didn't trip on his own stick..

hmmmm really???
i just watched the movie, it's in slow motion, i see why you'd think that, but it's not very clear. ruutu's stick is more in front of phaneuf, i don't think he actually touched him with it. when i saw it live and in replays, you could definitely see that he tripped over his own stick. no way it was a hook or else ruutu would have been gone to the box, they were keeping a close eye on him.

But watching it there's obviously NO STICK on the ice for him to trip on. The fact that you were there don't change that. Unless it got erased out of that "video" which is actually a gif animation so it'd be easy. But pointless.

I assure you that there was a stick on the ice. I agree you can't see it in that video, you would have to see an actual replay. But I promise you he tripped over his own stick.

You can see clear as day that he gets tripped. The other guy takes his stick and put its around the back of the other guys knee.

Am I the only one who thinks its weird how Ruutu's stick suddenly appears from nowhere right before Phaneuf trips.
That's an animated gif, so it could be photoshopped. That would be a lot of work, but possible, I guess.

watch it again and explain where phanuef's stick and gloves go, they disappear. the right glove seems to fly off at an incredible speed, obviously something is not right. and i like ruutu a lot, crawford should play him more, i just dont like him when the canucks play toronto.

Ruutu is an awesome jerkhole, but I love him because I'm a Vancouver fan.
Vancouver is only playing one game against Toronto this season and it's in Van.
I just moved from Victoria to Toronto. It would be fun to get beat up at a hockey game here.

ooh i love victoria. i haven't been to the city for sooo long, but i've been to the beaches and nanaimo semi-recently and i miss it! i dunno if i would want to live there though, it's such a retirement city. well nanaimo is at least.
don't go to the dark side and become a toronto fan, i will have to kill you. i seriously will. with a hockey stick so that's it's appropriate to my cause. seriously. don't do it. i'm not saying you are, but they will try to persuade you! don't fall for it!
