Favorite movie of all time - Band of Brothers, although it's not quite a movie since it was a 10 episode HBO series. If you haven't seen it - rent it or buy it now. You will thank me later.

Gotta agree with !Luck here, Shawshank is superb. Check out the published script by Frank Darabont if you're a fan, most published scripts are written after the film, literally just copied down from the action on-screen, but Shawshank's is the original, shooting script - it shows you where the director chose to make certain changes due to whatever constraints there were at the time. There's also many anecdotes from the set (I particularly like the ones relating to the person who had to be there to ensure the ethical treatment of animals on set, including the maggot that Brooks feeds to his pet crow...), and plenty of insight into the film-making process, as well as some trivia titbits (did you know Morgan Freeman's son was in the movie, ferinstance?)

Also, of course, there's Star Wars (Episode IV for preference, nothing with Jar-Jar in...), and off the top of my head:

Brotherhood of the Wolf
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Cinema Paradiso
Waking Life
Spirited Away
The Princess Bride
The Big Lebowski
Lord of the Rings
Dark Star
Clerks
Se7en
Hawk the Slayer [j/k]

... I could go on all day, great thread, !Luck...!

That is a great movie and I own it but I don't think I would consider that a horror by any means. I don't know what it would fall under but horror just doesnt feel right on this one.

Must agree with you on this one. Great movie, but not horror. Scary, nontheless. Of course, my perspective on this is a little skewed. I watched it late at night when I was unable to sleep because I was all strung out on IV steroids (prescription). Ugh. Few things are worse than watching strung out junkies when you're all strung out yourself.

Oh well, all is good as long as I never witness fishstick doing "end to end" in his FTR thong!
That was great, Uncle, but get off me now. You're squishing my smokes!

BTW, no "Casablanca"?!?!?!?!!?!?!? Careless that it hasn't been mentioned until now. It's funny as hell. I didn't expect a drama to be so humorous. Great film.

Also:
"Papillon", a 2nd for "Fight Club" (funny, funny stuff!), "Rabbit-Proof Fence", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (George Lazenby is the most underrated Bond), I could go on...

Hmmm. Sounds like I can't pick a favorite. Sorry.

so many posters, and only one person (boondock) mentions rounders as one of their favourites...you people should be ashamed being at a poker forum!

The thing is i don't love rounders.. I just love the scene near the end, heads up with Teddy. The rest of the movie is nothing but positioning for this amazing scene!

I know I'm just a n00b, but I'm thinking why bother? Like you said, we *are* in a poker forum. Everyone knows the movie (well, everyone here should), and it's an obvious choice. Then there are the peeps like 'rilla who didn't love it. Hope this doesn't get hijacked to a "Rounders RULZ"/"Rounder SUCKS" shouting match.

BTW, "RAN" is another excellent movie. Kurosawa does nice work, and it's available in a restored version on DVD that is beautiful. Worth the 2+ hours if you can hang with the subtitles...
