So most scary movies are terribly lame but I know there are some good ones out there so fill me in on your favs. Three of mine off the top of my head are:
- The Ring
- Blair Witch Project
- The Descent

dude, u and i have similar tastes so far.
The Blair Witch Project (i had to walk home that night past a forestry area)
The Ring (I hated that scary wet girl)
People Beneath The Stairs (I had nightmares for a week, first true scary movie for me)
Chucky (I slept on my back for over a decade because I needed full vision of my bed)

I quite liked the descent, the ring... meh..
The first scream scared me a lot because i was like 14 when i watched it
I lol'd through house of wax and chucky, both fun films.
A lot of people love the Saw series, i'm not really a fan...
Scariest film is obv snakes on a plane.

i forgot about silence of the lambs - def up there. one movie that doesn't scare me but is still a great scary movie is jaws 1. lol i still haven't seen snakes. i really can't take movies like chucky, jason, freddy, etc. seriously though cuz it just isn't scary unless you are a child.
also, what are some old scary movies that still hold up? a lot of them just seem pretty lame these days but there's gotta be some that are still pretty creepy. one that always seems to top lists is rosemary's baby...is it still scary or no? i haven't seen it.

ooohh Jaws is a good call.
The Believers with Martin Sheen scared the crap out of me, I made my mom leave the theater the first time I tried to watch it.
Don't see snakes

If se7en was a horror, then yes
Otherwise I much prefer comedies. Make me laugh dammit, not scared!

The shining
Evil dead
Blair witch project
The thing
The nightmare on elm street films scared me shitless when I was a kid, I wouldn't call them a favorite though because I don't really remember anything from them anymore.
Does Shaun of the dead count?

It the movie is about 10 % as scary as the book
Shining was another good one but does not hold up anymore IMO. (And again, you may as well read the book instead)
