When Playing Online: Water
When Playing at a Casino: Maker's Mark + Coke (hey, free drinks)
When Playing a Home Game: no favorite's here...anything with alcohol in it, the more the merrier
As you can see, my online poker is more money-making-oriented and my live poker is more fun-oriented.

well your home game play i can understand, however your live play i dont think should be taken the same as a home game...however free drinks are to be taken advantage of so i dont blame you...however i guess just not getting one everytime the hot girls come around is appropriate.

@home playing online: coke
@ home games: coors light
@casino: makers mark neat
Fuck you if you put coke in it!
No doubt you should take advantage of free drinks for two reasons.
1.) they're fucking free
2.) you're opponents perception of you wil change

While playing online I usually just drink water.
At the casino I will drink energy drinks (unfortunately I am not old enough to drink legally yet)
Weekly homegame either Jamison Whiskey, assorted types of beer (usually fat tire, sierra nevada pale ale or if I am feeling cheap bud light), and if I am really feeling like a cocktail I will go with some caribou lou (151, cocunut rum and pineapple juice).

Water. I'm one of those crazy people who actually drinks the 10 glasses of water per day that are recommended in most junior high school health textbooks. I just think it tastes good though. Actually, I'm pretty sure the only beverage besides water that I've consumed in the past two weeks is a mango lassi.

About drinking in a casino affecting how the table looks at you...
Unlike most of you guys, I make the vast majority of my income in B+M games. The way I look at the guys who are drinking is not a way you want to be looked at. You look like my rent money.
I do drink at home games and bar tourneys if I'm doing well and don't need the income boost.
Bushmills (sometimes ice, sometimes not), guiness, stella sometimes if I want something light.
I did show up to a home game completely blasted one time, I drank a cup full of vodka straight while there (it's all they had) and took down a tournament while looking like an elitist asshole and making sure I'd never get to sit in that weak-ass game ever again. That sucks... on the bright side I woke up hung over WITH money instead of hung over WITHOUT money...
oh yeah... online and casino play, room temp water or coffee.

This is exactly why you want to be looked at that way. You'd rather come off looking like a donk who will give you the rent money than coming off as a decent player.

When I play live the effects of the adrenaline seem to counter a good deal of the effects of the booze - I need to drink a lot more before I start playing badly.
Of course, I could still be playing sub-optimally but am not aware of it - but it doesn't seem to affect my results.

I agree with biondino here. If I lose some of my edge when drinking during live games, it's really not too much of a lost edge (assuming I don't get too drunk). It's not like I become a bad or reckless player after a drink or two, I just lose a some of my ability to focus and my judgment gets a little cloudier (but still generally okay). I still retain an edge over typical casino competition. And the above discussed table image of "I'm here to gamble" really does counter some more of that lost edge.
Also, in my case, I don't go to casinos often enough to significantly affect my bankroll either way, so I'm there to have a good time and maybe win a little money, so drinking just makes sense. I'm not there to play my A+ game and win as much money as I can.

I'd like to meet Jesus. Not because people claim he was the son of god, but because he could turn water into wine. A man like that is good to know, because you never know when you'll need a bottle of wine or an extra nail.

Interesting how the top earner ITT only drinks water (unless I'm mistaken about him being the top earner). I wonder if there is some sort of correlation here..

I don't think mcatdog has gone from drinking 10 cups of water a day to downing energy drinks and coke while grinding. Though I could be mistaken, perhaps he can give us an update.
