I couldn't believe it when he started chatting with me a few days ago about wanting to do this. But there's some shit going on IRL that he's dealing with... it's his private matter, so I won't get into it, but he apparently feels he needs time off from everything else so he can straighten some things out. I don't know why he thinks he needs to be banned, but this isn't the first time a long-time regular has asked to be banned. Some people can't control their posting/browsing impulses, I guess.
His final PM request was indeed sad, but under the circumstances, I didn't want to add to his troubles by denying his wishes. Tyson, Eric and I wish gabe well and we sincerely hope he overcomes this and comes back.

I've figured it out.
Xianti is not the type to ban gabe right before April fools day, realizing it could obviously be an april fools joke. He'd probably wait a bit and then see if gabe still wanted to do this. Unless of course gabe had been so convincing in the pm that X-man decided that he truly wanted this.
Banning also seems very unneccessary, as gabe can just not post easily.
I think we aren't going to hear from gabe for awhile though. Even if the original intent was as an April Fools joke, he may very well not post for a month and come back then, making it not a joke at all.
