Dude was like in his 40s and met a guy at an event that turned out to be his half-brother that he never knew about. This is just mind-blowing.
(The link might be NSFW because there is about 20-30 seconds of fight footage at the beginning of this news story from early UFC events.)

kimbo is the bodyguard for the milfhunter now. you are more likely to see him in videos of insidethevip helping sluts out of a stretch hummer than in fight videos. seriously. but he still looks fucking scary doing it.

Um...yeah watch much MMA?.Kimbo is now a fulltime MMA fighter with EliteXC. He still maintains his ties to the people he came up with, but his dedication is to MMA now. And he's getting better with every fight. With Bas Rutten as his trainer, the sky's the limit. He's still relatively young and has a lot of fights left in him. If he keeps winning don't be surprised to see the UFC make a run at him with his popularity as big as it is. Bodyguarding is just a side gig now.
Although an endearing story to hear. Pat Smith will never be good enough to fight in the UFC again.

While I agree 100%, consider Tank vs Frank Mir, Royce vs Matt Hughes, Ken Shamrock vs Tito. I would have said the same about those three =]

I'll never forget Pat Smith. I watched him on payperview in UFC 1 when I was 6 yrs old. He lost horribly. Then, in UFC 2, he went to the finals. He did a lot of training, and learned a lot about ground techniques in a very short time. I have great respect for that man. Definitely one of my role models as a fighter. As for Kimbo: I don't think he is as good as everyone says he is. If he truly is the great street brawler, why are his fights so few and far between? Also, I would like to see how he does against some real fighters. The only big names that he's fought so far are Tank Abbot and Ray Mercer, both of which are on their last legs. Frank Shamrock would be his test. Let's see how smart Kimbo can be.
Spoon, I really like this post. I am an amateur fighter with Eastsidaz fight club in Hawaii, and I train at Mixed Martial Arts Development gym. If you wanna talk fights, let me know.

Okay, you say you train MMA, but wonder why fights are so few in between? Most MMA fighter try to fight every 4 to 6 months. He's fought June 2007, November 2007, and February 2008. Looks about right to me. Remember, the man has only been dedicated to MMA less than a year or so. Cut him some slack. Backyard brawls don't mean dick in the cage or ring. Also as a MMA practitioner you should know that when a fighter is being groomed for the big time he is fed some cans his first few fights. Mercer, Tank, and Cantrell all fit that bill. Lastly, as an MMA practitioner, you would at least realize Kimbo is 240lbs. and Frank Shamrock is 185lbs. Who in the hell would sanction a fight with that much of a weight class difference? Frank will have his hands full with Cung Le if he tries to stand with him, and they weigh the same!
Be thankful you posted this here. You woulda been owned on an MMA forum, lol.

Ooops, I just need to get my facts straight. I had Kimbo fighting late '06, early '07, and then '08. I also thought he was 215. That's my bad. I don't get much of a chance to follow pros much. I concede that one. Also, I am not knocking Kimbo, I just want to see him tested. That's all.
Also, last I heard, Frank is working to 215.
I don't care enough to go on MMA forums. I obviously don't pay much attention. I just like to fight. Wanna fight?

whats wrong about it? hes in a lot of porn videos. ok hes fighting more professionally now. but a win over tank abbott, a 42 year-old fatass with a professional fighting career riddled with losses and embarrassments, is not that big of a deal imo. i hope kimbo does continue to do well professionally, i've been a fan since i saw his backyard shit on sublimedirectory years ago. anyways
as for other fighters, i'm a huge fan of urijah faber. he is easily the most dominant fighter in his weight class

Pat Smith acted like a little bitch when Shamrock beat him in the UFC. They fought, he lost, and should have acted like a man but didn't.

What do you mean he acted like a bitch? He fought, lost, and got pissed. He came back three more times, each one better than the last. He worked his ass off to be able to get in the octagon and actually compete.
Pancrase is gay. How can you have a fight without punching to the face?

He lost, but tried to go across the ring and "get at" Shamrock. Thus, he acted like a little bitch.
Shamrock is a shootfighter.

For what it's worth, Ken broke his leg without really giving him time to tap, so yeah I'd be pissed too. Then again, he didn't really know much of shit about submissions then if my understanding is correct, so maybe he didn't know what was coming when Ken snatched that heel hook.
Pancrase has always allowed strikes to the face, albeit not with a closed fist, and not on the ground. It was designed as a grounds for "professional wrestlers" to have shoot bouts against each other, although there were obviously some worked matches.
Against Royce the first time, I don't think it was so much of Ken trying to continue as the ref was totally retarded and didn't stop things when he saw Ken blatantly tap right in front of him. Ken didn't make any aggressive movements as far as I remember, and just sort of sat there.
Edit: Btw, I'm pretty sure Ken Shamrock never fought in any shootwrestling matches.

Frank is such a primadonna now there is no way he'll fight heavier. EliteXC basically gives him free reign. He doesn't even fight outside San Jose pretty much anymore. Don't get me wrong. I still think Frank's got some game in him. It's just his attitude of superiority that pisses me off. I wish the UFC would shell out the dough to see an Anderson SIlva vs. Frank Shamrock match to see who the "REAL" middleweight champ is. My money is on Silva.
Lindland and Fedor would not have happened in the U.S.. That was Bodogs best to put up a "name" opponent for Fedor, and Lindland got subbed in the first round for his troubles. Fighters fighting up traditionally have more trouble than if they cut weight.
Here's a scary thought. Fedor fights around 233. And let's all admit he still looks soft in the middle. Can you imagine a totally cut Fedor fighting at 205? Rampage vs Fedor would be a battle for the ages, for about a minute, lol.

Okay, fair enough on admitting you need facts. Why would Frank work to 215? That would make him a very light Heavyweight. There are a ton of 205'ers better than him right now. Rampage would own his ass, let alone whoever is in the Heavy's. Do you mean Frank walks around at 215 before cutting to 185? That sounds more realistic.
Hmm...wanna fight? Well my answer would be not really, but I would definitely spar with you. Would it be fair though? I got you by almost 100lbs. Wait never mind. You Hawaii fuckers are crazy. A guy from the MMA boards I frequent just moved there to train, and says everyday some local yocal wants to throwdown for no reason at all. Can't we all just get along? I tell you what, I'll admit that if you got a good sprawl, and BJJ. You would take me. I'm just a wrestle to the ground and pound you out kind of guy. Maybe a choke here and there (I can pull guard pretty good, lol). Once the kids are in school I'm gonna begin my dream of training BJJ. Maybe I could get a black belt by the time I'm 60, lol.
Just wanted to throw out that maybe us MMA/Fight fans should have a stickied thread or something so we can gab away.

The above is an excellent thought.
Also, I'm not Hawaiian. Nasty bastards (I'm not racist, but some of the locals here piss me off,) are all like 275-400 lbs. They hate mainlanders which they call Howlies. They're huge and violent. I am out here with the Marine Corps. They do have some excellent fighters coming up through the professional and semi-pro circuits though. I would have to say this is one of the top 5 states for fighters to train.

Frank obv has some game left in him, but I really think he's in it these days to make money as opposed to trying to climb the middleweight ladder so to speak, and saying things like he said about Anderson Silva etc etc just continues his self-promotion. While some people will say his antics might become annoying and borderline unethical (the Josh Thompson/Phil Baroni YouTube videos, for example), it seems to be fairly smart business for someone in his particular position.

Well Griffin beat Faber a few years ago, 05 or 06 I think, not totally sure. I think in like the 2nd or 3rd round Griffin came out and flattened him seconds into the round. Of course they're both different fighters now, but it would be an interesting rematch.

It sure would. I'm not sure if Tyson would drop to Feather just for a rematch though. He's doing pretty good as a Lightweight. I would say his wrestling is as good, if not better than Fabers. Kid vs. Faber is the fight everyone wants to see currently though.

I'd love to roll with Penn. Just to say I got subbed by the Prodigy, lol.
You think our fellow Marine Stann is gonna take out the Rhino?

I think Stann is a beast. He's going to the top quick. I would like to see him smooth out his ground work a little. His explosiveness, and conditioning would be deadly if he could get the transitioning down to match it.
You say OUR fellow Marine. Does that mean your a Marine too?

Yeah I'm a former Leatherneck. And for what it lasted Marshall and Stann was awesome toe to toe. I seriously thought Stann was going down for a second, and then he cought Rhino right in the sweet spot.
Ooh Fucking Rah!! I just wish the WEC would stop exploiting his combat service as a feel good story to sell tickets. Let the man honor his brothers privately.
Sonnen was an absolute beast also. If Filho doesn't get his shit together, Sonnen will win the next fight straight up. All the fights were pretty decent tonight.

I was thinking the same thing. He may have done it the first time on his own, but they're probably going overboard now. I'm just glad he aint my OIC. Course, I'm in the air wing. That's why I have so much time to post, play, and fight.
LOL, I'm watching the fights now. Since I'm 3 hrs behind the west coast, and since I'm not training cause I have a pft on Friday.

I saw the fights. I only caught Sonnen and Stann though. Whatever the fight before that was just ending when I tuned in. Sonnen really did own Baker. I like that 3point Nelson. I remember it from wrestling, but it never occurred to me that I could use it in MMA. Stann is a sick mother f***er too. A Marine owns the WEC light-heavyweight title. I told my platoon at passdown this morning.

Ahh shit! Sorry if I spoiled it for you. I forget about time differences.
The whole card was pretty decent.
Now let's see if Saturday will be any good. It's already got one strike against it with Nick Diaz being told he can't fight.

It's all good man. I won't be watching Saturday though. I'll grind from 1pm to 4pm, and then I go train at 5. I'll be there for 4 hrs or so, get back, and drink till 3am.
294/300 on the pft, and a field day on a friday night. Here's to the Marine Corps!

Shamrock vs. Le was an all out war. Lol @ Shamrock. Showboated the whole time, and got his arm broken for the effort. Cung Le has some good stikes, but Anderson Silva would whoop that ass in a second.
