Having some eye problems and one of the suggestions may be upping the refresh rate on my monitors. I have 60hertz and 75, what is the faster of the two? And does it matter on these new LCD's

Smithers, use the amnesia ray.
You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.

As a child I always had 20/20 vision. After two years of playing poker all the time on a 60hz monitor, I wear glasses.

When I was 8, I wasn't even 5 feet tall. After 13 years of reading books, I'm 6 feet!

Waking up blurry, some days they never clear, others it's only one eye. I want to call them floaters, but it's more a haze in spots. Eye site is worse than ever. Right eye is definitely in need of glasses when they are clear.

75 is in fact the bare minimum recommended (the more, the better).
60 is considered unhealthy and in the long run damages your eyes.
... so says my friend, hardware expert being in the business for more than a decade

Holy shit. I just switched mine from 60 to 75 (I thought they were already on 75) and I can't see a physical difference in the picture but my fucking eyes are feeling weird and starting to water just looking at this same page.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Yea I get that Warpe, and I do want to see someone. I said I want to call them floaters, but they aren't by definition, since it's more just the haziness that seems to move around from day to day or hour to hour, not the "I think there is a fly in the room" type of floaters that would have me much more concerned.

This is for CRTs and was exactly what I thought, then I saw LCD.
Hz (Hertz) is equal to 1/sec, usually used to describe frequency. So 60 Hz goes 60 times a second, 75 Hz goes 75 times a second. So, LDO, 75Hz is faster.
A CRT starts scanning at the top of the screen and draws one line at at time. It fires an electron which temporarily lights up the pixel (think the flare you get from the sulfer on a match). Before it completely disappears, the beam is back and it gets lit up again. Our eyes are only sensitive up to 30Hz or so (not 100% on this number) so you can't see this. However, the electricity coming into your home is also 60Hz. Since these are the same frequency you get interference, hence the flicker. (I can't think of a good way to explain this flicker without maths so I won't)
LCDs don't work the same way. Each pixel is an individual switch. Your computer adjusts each switch when it needs to change something. 60Hz on an LCD refers to how fast it can change (sort of) not how fast it is changing (like a CRT). If you sit back and stare at your LCD screen, nothing is changing behind the scenes.
Cliff notes: 60Hz on an LCD doesn't cause eye strain.
Random thoughts:
Use darker backgound/themes. My desktop background is usually just black. I've gotten something similar for a most of the poker rooms. I always felt trying to pick out the cards from the background is what annoyed me (more time than eye strain).
Maybe adjusting the clear type will help?

room lighting? should be bright (although I don't practice this)
adjust contrast/brightness?
I still think you should see a doctor.

I hate crt's because almost regardless of herts i can see flicker on white pictures and it hurtz.
I love LCD it NEVER flickers. The hertz does not matter when reading/pokering on your pc.
Also pls see doctor. +999999

Cut down on the porn or at least don't get so close to the screen.

Thanks Swig, I actually read some of those facts while googling some of it. As for the darker poker themes, I am the king of changing my backgrounds to all black, I can't stand all the busy colours and patterns on poker skins. i still love the phatty liver cards though. I do use the clear type option, that was a tip I recieved a long time ago as well. You and Goat hit the nail on the head with the lighting though, I always jsut turn on the desk lamp, but I started turning on the other overhead light ysesterday, and I will continue that. As for the nose 1 inch from the screen, that would not be good with a 22" and a 19' duel monitor setup, but yesterday I caught myself getting to close just trying to read.
As a side note, they are clearer today after a better nights sleep, but I will still see someone since every day is a guess latelyof how good my vision will be.

Ahhhh ... thanks swiggidy for clarifying this.
As for "clear type" - this is something I'd recommend to everyone.
