Will this mean that even for Las Vegas residents, will be illegal to play online poker??? And just how close is the bill to passing and making it a law??

It passed in the House.
Needs to pass in Senate, and Bush won't veto it.

I hear that a complete ban won't pass the Senate.
My personal opinion is that they will try to come up with some regulatory language and nobody will agree on the details and the issue will go away for awhile. Just my opinion and I don't really have any information to back it up.

From my understanding, yes.
But as villagenut said, it still has to pass the senate and from what I've heard signs are indicating that it's not likely to.

It is my understanding that it probably won't pass unless they are able to attach it to the defense bill.
Being a federal bill, I think the ban would apply the same to Las Vegas residents as any other US residents.

Yes, the DoD bill is in front of the Senate now. No, I do not think they have been able to piggyback this on it.

It has not been piggybacked yet, but Bill Frist is trying to put the necessary votes together to do it as we speak. I think there is only one more week to go until recess.

His first attempt was kicked back and he is trying again to attach an ammended version to the DOD bill and gaining momentum. I read somewhere where one of the online betting sites has a 33% chance it will pass this year. I do not like those odds. I just wish this guy would give up. The tone for the NROG (national rights for online gambling) is getting negative. In 2+2 this is a debate that netteller might even been banned. I would hate to wake up one day and not be able to get my money out of neteller.

The Playing Against The House article by Anthony Dicomo in the Volume III Issue 6 edition of All In Magazine talks about this issue. The subtitle of "The Representatives rule against online poker(but deem lotteries and ponies to be just peachy)" says a lot.
Here are 2 interesting quotes:

It is unconscionable that a skill game like poker gets swept into the net of prohibition, while online horse betting and Internet lotteries get free passes. [Poker Players Alliance President Michael Bolcerek page 18]

why do people continue to ignorantly support a government that is constantly trying to take away our liberties?

Both parties do it in different ways.

It's only one part ignorance. It's also one part willful application of bigotry, even at the expense of a long-term creed of liberty for all. For some people, the liberties that have been removed and those in jeopardy are completely aligned with those liberties that they do not intend on taking advantage of, and they have a bias against people that do have this intention. This is an ass-backwards way to think about things, but some people think this way nevertheless.

I live in a decent sized house up here in Canada. I will rent out rooms for the steal of $350 a month. I also charge 15% of your online profits. High stakes sharks get a deal of only 10% of their earnings. Winning players only please.

Me to Galopogos, no taxes to be paid up here, but minimum earnings to go towards my bankroll and cheap rent. I will be available when the time comes. P.S. I just bought an older house so any kind of skills, i.e. electrical, plumbing, drywall or HVAC can have a further rent reductions.
