Asked my gf this morning, down on one knee, in the Seattle rain, looking out from a park at the Puget Sound. She said yes. I'm pretty happy. Going to a baller French restaurant tonight to celebrate.

@ flomo: My gf loves FTR (especially how much it's helped our finances) but I don't think she's that psyched to have her photo posted. Maybe I'll ask her 
@ kingnat: I think there are a couple of nice French places near Pike Place Market... Campagne and Chez Shea come to mind. I haven't been either place. We're going to Rover's which has won restaurant of the year a few times, never been, can't wait.

Thanks. No wedding plans yet. Fall at the earliest. No idea where it will be or how big... maybe ~150? We just want to throw a big party for our families and friends, but her mom is into the whole traditional thing we'll have to make her happy somehow too.

Find out what your in-laws are going to put in on this wedding. Work out a deal with them, take your fiancee to the courthouse and get hitched......then throw a big party. Now you have lots of MONEYS!
My father in-law actually offered that to me. "George, we are putting XX,XXX.XX down for this wedding......whatever you come under that is yours. Even if you take my daughter to the courthouse, which financially I'd strongly recommend, the rest will be yours."
My (now) wife knew all of this too and still said NO I'M HAVING MY DAY TO BE A PRINCESS.
So my real advice? GIVE HER A DAY TO BE A PRINCESS.
P.S. And make sure you have enough beer/liquor for your friends so they don't remember their names.

@ UG: Sounds like excellent advice, ty. The whole wedding industry disturbs me, but I think I have to get used to saying "yes, dear" for this one. I don't think my gf will go too crazy though, I'm more worried about her mom.

I'm getting my phd in December. After that we're taking three months off to travel and move to Cali, so no day job!
I've lived with my gf for over a year so I don't think much is going to change just because we got engaged. I'm sure all the crusty, old married guys are going to laugh at that one. She keeps pretty busy, and I've never thought of her as "taking up my free time"
