Alright so ive been doing alot of buying and such on ebay. I have saved a ton of money by doing this. People might remember my thread about changing styles and such and ive done that, but god damn its expensive. Anyways I'm Canadian and we get everything taxed into oblivion.

Literally.

I was in an Abercrombie store, shopping while avoiding getting analed (if youve ever been in an abercrombie store, youll know what im talking about) , and I saw a hoodie that I really wanted. Problem was it was marked at $130, so I cry/folded and looked elsewhere. Anyways on ebay I saw the same hoodie and picked it up on a dead auction for $30 with $20 shipping, so $50!

I want to know what everyone else buys on ebay, if anything.

Oh and if your wondering about how ebay works or your interested in signing up but your worried its complicated or youll get scammed - ask questions. Thats what kept me away from ebay in years passed.

I generally buy silly little things that I usually wouldn't be able to pick up at 'real life' shops, eg. badges, custom t-shirts, etc etc.

I have purchased climbing and skiing gear, as well as Magic cards (back when I used to collect them) on Ebay. I also sold over $2000 in aforementioned Magic cards on Ebay after I stop collecting.

Actually, you've been doing a lot of SPENDING money by doing this. This is a common mistake that is made too often by too many people. Saving would be if you didn't buy it at all, and put the money away for later.

Usually it works by pulling it down over your head, then, if you wish, you can put the hood up to cover your head. Any questions?

Clothing is a necessity, and I choose to spend a bit more to satisfy my personal tastes.

I dont mind spending 80 or 90 on a good quaity sweater I know will last and looks good. Back when I dressed in 'gangster' fashion I would get cheap 2 and 3xl hoodies for 20$ each but after about 12, 13 washes they were faded, shrank like crazy, and the zippers didnt work. I literally threw them out. Now my sweaters stay looking new even after washes, you really do get what you pay for in some cases.

So stay out of the ebay thread, you miser.

I totally agree (except for the last part). My favorite store is Hollister Co. Don't get me wrong, I love to spend money, and do so pretty liberally. The only thing I was saying was that way too many people believe that by shopping at sales they are actually saving money. This is far from the case, and is part of the reason that the average family debt in the U.S. (I don't know about Canada) is around $40k. I wasn't critisizing, only stating an observation I have made.

Brand new, with tags, and that Abercrombie smell

I bought it from a guy in New York.

It works like this. Someone will have an items (or items) they wish to sell, so they put together a flyer-type promotion and list it on ebay. When people search abercrombie hoodie or hoodie, theirs will come up.

You can customize the listing in certain orders, such as lowest priced, distance from your place, or time remaining. Time remaining is the one that most people use.

When the seller lists the auction, they can choose X number of days for it to be up, the standard being 1 week.

People bid, and when the time is up, whoever has bid the most wins the auction.

Advice: when you open their auction, there is info of the seller on the top right hand corner. Their alias, feedback, and feedback rating. Always look for at least 30 feedback, that means he has bought or sold 30 times on ebay. Also look for a 95%+ feedback rating.

After you do business with someone, you leave feedback. When you win an auction and pay promptly, the seller gives you a positive feedback. If you dont pay, you get a negative, which is bad. Vice versa if the seller doesnt ship you your item or sends something that wasnt what was listed, or its damaged or something, you give them a negative feedback.

always wait to leave a feedback after you buy something, until you receive the item.

so if someone has 30 fedback and a 60% feedback rating, we assume this guy is ripping alot of people off, so dont buy from him.

Anyways thats the idea of ebay. Enjoy

I buy "gently" used Wii games for 35 ~40 shipped versus 50 out of store. Of the 4 games I bought this 1, 3 were still wrapped and one was not. All 4 discs were in pristine condition.

Ebay doesn't take long at all to figure out and you can really save some money on stuff you don't mind waiting 5 days to receive.

I agree that you get what you pay for but it is not unlikely that you could pay less for the same item if you invest a little time and get lucky.

The deals are out there if you go looking for them. If you feel your time>money saved, certainly going to the store is nice. Since you could spend several hours failing to win any auctions on that item you want.

What i do now is check the completed listings and bid really low on a bunch of the same items. For example a sweater I got I had been going for about $40, so i bid $25 a few weeks ago on about 17 auctions. I got lucky and won one :P. Its summer so I dont really need it.

and say I win 4 of them. I go sell them for $40 and profit from the few i sell.

Its a good technique
