so im getting my family some nice stuff for christmas and i know what im getting everyone except one of my sisters. the thing is, she owes me a few hundred dollars. is it lame to give her a card saying all her debt is cleared?
any thoughts appreciated

It would kind of depend on why she borrowed the money. If it was for a vacation and you said the "trip is on me" that would be really cool. I guess how old is she too? A college student would love it.
It's way better than writing her a check for $200 (making up a number) then winking when she opens the card.
The only way it backfires is if she got you something really nice to make up for the debt.

sahe just finished her masters degree and is poor. she needed it to pay off bills. would this type of gift be offensive though? i dont know

Thats fine, just get her something aside too that isnt too expensive but shows you put a little more effort.

I would get her a real gift and let her pay you back when she gets a job.
You could ask her (or your mom) if she'd like the debt forgiven or a real present.
