I have a Dell Dimension comp, with my current monitor coming out of a DVI port on the graphics card.
There is also a (covered) VGA port coming out of the motherboard (not the gfx card).
Does this mean I'm capable of dual monitoring easily and safely? This comp is pretty much my life and if I screw anything up I'm fucked, so I don't want to piss around.
My current monitor seems to be working off the Plug and Play port, what's the difference between that and the Secondary port?

Oh yea, googling my graphics card makes it look like it has 2 ports on it but this is some spacesaving dell model so it's the narrow version which only has one port.

Your fine, plug one in. You can't plug something into a computer that ain't supposed to go. the all have different slots.
