well i've been making enough money in poker that out of nothing better to do im going to make a dual monitor setup. any of you have any experience with this?
i currently have a samsung 193p (19" lcd) and its plugged into my dvi slot.
i plan on buying a samsung 21" lcd and plugging that into the analog slot. would this work as a dual monitor setup? just one vid card with 2 monitors plugged into it?
if not, would i have to purchase another vid card? fyi i have a 256mb geforce card, not sure on exact model, its 5xxx.

i have a similar setup and let me tell you...it works wonders. it depends on your video card. i currently have an analog lcd and an analog crt monitor hooked up to my video card (ati radeon 8500).
on my graphics card, it has 2 outputs - analog and dvi. since both of my monitors are analog, i had to order a dvi to analog convertor plug so i could hook up both monitors. not sure how yours is set up.
comparing dual monitors to single is like comparing broadband to 56k. once you use it, you'll never go back....so be careful

My Radeon 9800 has a DVI and an analogue port but came with an analogue to DVI converter so i can run 2 LCD's should i wish, I think you'll need one of these to run a second LCD. (you can't run an LCD out of a VGA port)

This is essentially the exact setup I have. I have two 19" LCD's one connected to the DVI output on the card and the other connected to the analog outpt...and it works perfectly. I am a little picky, so I spent hours messing with the color and contrast settings trying to get them to match perfectly...in the end it is not possible to get a digital and analog signal's color rendition to look the same. After about a week I adjusted to the difference...I could have saved a lot of time if I had simply let my brain do the adjusting....so there is a tip for you!

You can if your LCD has dual input. I have Sceptre Komodo LCDs that accept DVI and VGA input

I only play two SnG's (or sometimes, one SnG and one cash game) at a time, but if I could see a full view of one game and a full view of the other, I think it would be worth it. I currently just have a single monitor set-up but I am thinking of going to two. Does anybody else think it would be worth it for playing only two tables at once?

get the dell monitor/tv... its awesoem.. i got hte 17" widescreen and now i can play multi tables and have the PIP going with a tv window in one corner... usually i listen to ESPN on it or maybe watch WPT reruns... its so great!

thanks for the replies guys, i went ahead and ordered it today...only $850 shipped  . and ill only ever buy samsung tvs or monitors, honestly, you will fall in love with the quality,

If you want full views of 2 tables at a time, instead of getting a dual monitor setup, I would suggest the cheaper alternative of getting a monitor with a higher resolution. I have a single 21" CRT monitor that goes up to 1920x1440 resolution, and I can easily fit 4 full tables at once without overlap, and still have a ton of extra room around the sides.

You paid 850$ for a monitor, holy jeez.... Anyways, your videocard is decent... if it has a DVI and VGA input, you will be able to run dual monitors on the card. Radeon 9800 = a graphics card that supports 2 monitors
DVI = digital video port, looks like a longer plug with more holes than most monitors use; provides better quality than analog
analog = standard monitor input; aka VGA port
Note: LCD monitors often only support DVI
translation: "My graphics card has one digital and one analog plug, but it came with an adapter to let you plug a digital monitor into the analog port. That lets me use two LCD monitors even though they both have to have the digital port. I think you'll need to get an adapter like that to run a second monitor (because you can't connect an LCD monitor to an analog port)."

i havent heard bad things about dell monitors particularly (as i have with sony and others), but i also havent heard very good things. the two top monitors in todays market are samsung and viewsonic, and i just have a preference for samsung. samsung actually just came out with a new monitor...it has 1600:1 contrast ratio. thats absolutely ridiculous. my 193p has 1000:1 and i think its absolutely gorgeous.

Definately why I go with 17" right now. Mine was 300$ (it is not home with me it is at college, so i don't know the brand) It is perfect. I'll probably go 3-4 monitors if I ever start playing poker as a parttime job.

Resurrecting this thread...
I'm looking for recommendations on a better Multi-tabling setup while avoiding the multi-monitor desktop setup.
Anyone have advice on how to figure out if 4 tables (assume PTY) will fit w/o overlap on a 20-21" monitor at 1024 x 768? Considering an upgrade from my 17" Dell running at this resolution and 500-1 contrast. I cannot go to 1280 x 1024 without killing my eyes...please forgive the non-tech-saavy nature of this request.
