I'm pretty sure it's legal for something like 6 months if I'm a visitor, but can someone confirm that I can drive in Pennsylvania with a BC Canada drivers license? I've been searching online but I can't find a page that explicitly states the rules for visitors.

Sorry, had to say that. Best bet is simply to call your local DMV. I think every state has different rules for visitor's licenses.

I always assumed I could drive anywhere in the U.S. with an Ontario License.

I looked but couldnt find it either.

I found that in general, you could drive here for a year so long as you had your license and visa/passport on you...but PA is one of those weird states that is typically a little stricter than others

I am nearly certain you can do this without a fuss, Courtie. I've driven thru PA a few times with a QC license, never been stopped though.

FWIW, I heard, anecdotally, that you're actually in a good spot having a CDN license in the USA; chances are, if you get pulled over for some minor infraction, the cop won't even bother writing you up.

Douglas Adams had an anecdote that he would always use his US License when driving in Britain, and his British license when driving in the States, for this exact reason.

Believe it or not, you can drive anywhere in the U.S. with ANY other country's driver's license, as long as it's valid. When I moved here I had almost 5 years left on my license, so I didn't bother getting a US license for a loooong time.
Bonus - apparently it's a pain in the butt for cops to write you a ticket with a foreign license, so they're more likely than average to just let you off with a warning.

lol bickes

thanks for the replies. I'm sure it's ok for me to drive here, but I'll probably take ensign's advice and call the DMV just to be sure because I'm a nit.

Is an international Driver’s License valid in Pennsylvania?
Top
Pennsylvania honors a valid foreign driver’s license with an international driving permit for a period of up to one year. If the foreign license and/or international permit expires before one year, the individual must apply for a Pennsylvania learner’s permit to continue to drive in this state.

Does anyone think she started this thread because she's under the impression they drive on the other side of the road down there?
