Theres quite a hoo-ha in the UK aabout gambling at the moment as they are about to permit 'Vegas - Style' casinos. The news loves this and is full of gambling ruined my life stories. So thanks to the BBC you can see if you have a gambling problem. I scored 4 so can call off the therapy

Does staying up all night gambling constitute having trouble sleeping? If I weren't awake gambling, I'm sure I would get to sleep just fine.

Is gambling affecting your reputation? What if you win a big tournament and increase your reputation?

Have you ever felt remorse after gambling? To some degree whenever I lose a pot.

Does gambling cause a decrease in your ambition or efficiency? Yes but so does 90% of the stuff I do.

After a win do you have a strong urge to return and win more? If you answer no to this I think that's a bigger problem.

Are you reluctant to use gambling money for normal expenditures? I call this good bankroll management, not a problem.

Do you gamble longer than you planned? If the deck is hitting me in the face during a winning session yes.

Do you ever gamble to escape worry or trouble? Sometimes but I could say that about a lot of things.

Does gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping? If i didn't stay up late playing poker, I'd be staying up late doing something else.

Do you have an urge to celebrate any good fortune by a few hours gambling? Most of my good fortune comes from poker.

Have you ever considered self-destruction as a result of your gambling? Yes

Just a cheesey little q&a some old time anti gambling non profit organization made. It is silly when you think about it.

Bob you sure over-evaluated this survey, lol.

6 - though at least a couple of them I consider GOOD things, so I reckon they should actually be -1 each. So, 2 then.

(specifically - are you unwilling to take your gambling earnings and spend them on everyday things - well yes, it's my bankroll, it lets me win more!; and the reputation question. I really like the fact that friends and acquaintances ask me about poker!)

I have a gambling problem. I play poorly and I know it and I know how to play right but sometimes i just have no discipline and think "Eh I'll try that"

I just LOVE playing poker and it is more profitable to play a lower percentage of deals.
Been playing money poker for 34 years and decided in 2002 to try that TX Holdem game on TV. Then found Pokerstars in Summer 2005. Still not an overall winner but i am on a good trend and nearly there.

Your award sucks compared to mine anyway.

If you REALLY wanted to keep it, you could just get a 20/20 and you'd be the first to do it and therefore the best...

7.5

But yeh, badly worded, alot of the points I gained weren't negative things.

Eg borrowing money to gamble, who cares if I did if I *KNEW* Ill get it paid back after good BR management (which I did).
Experimenting - 200NL 5max.

I didn't think it was that bad - it's not aimed at people playing poker, it's intended for blackjack, craps, roueltte & slots

If when you have a big win on a slot machine, you have a strong urget to go back and gamble some more then yes, that is a pointer towards compulsive behaviour.

Winning at a fixed-odds game is different to crushing a table.

I'm reading "Ace On The River" at the moment, and it's got a lot of counter-intuitive advice, such as "playing above your bankroll is fine if it's a good game... i.e. there are some live players there.

edit: obviously he's talking about live middle to high limit games, not $50NL on the internet.

dog, its aimed at poker players that treat poker like BJ. Also anti gambling people are just like any other type of jesus freak, they are zealots, they dont necessarilly really think the issue through. Just like anti drug people, they draw silly arbitrary lines, what about caffene, nicotene or alchohol? just because it is accepted on a wide spread level its not a 'drug', they are all full of shit.
