Do Americans, in general, take any interest in the UK general election? Is it a big deal on TV and in the media?
Just curious as the US election is big news over here, so wondering about the effect when it's the other way round.

Are your elections come around?
Other events across the world barely get any media airplay...except if it's us doing good and spreading democracy to other places such as Iraq. Thank the troops for saving the Iraqis.

That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

afaik it's not a big deal in norway either. The US election is given crazy coverage here though.
but don't worry, at least it's a bigger deal than the canadian election (if they even have elections). Most norwegians can at least name the british prime minister, but we don't have a clue who the Chief Mountee or w/e is.

Oh Snap!
Where the heck is Norwegia anyways? Is that a state near Georgia in the US?
And I doubt very many Canadians can name the PM in Britain. I just figured the Queen = Prime Minister.

as for US not taking any interest - why would you not be interested in what your grand rulers are doing?
This is why the woring classes will never rise up! Lack of interest.

I can do better than that. I can name all of them.
For now, it's a dude named Gordon Brown. I heard he is James Brown's cousin. Before him was a dude name Tony Blair. I heard he is George Bush's cousin. Before HIM was a dude name Major John. I heard he wasn't really a Major...he was just a Bowie fan. Before Bowie dude was Maggie Thatcher. Her cousin was that Jaws guy from the James Bond movies and she was actually a Russian Spy who murdered runaways for fun. Before HER, it was Winston Churchill and he was PM for, like, 90 years.

could it be because we wonder which part of the world you'll be invading next and what particular measures the candidates are proposing that will turn out to screw the world economy next?
Also kind of ironic that as chancellor of the exchequer brown kep boasting that he had broken the cycle of boom and bust .....now deep in the shit with borrowing out of control looks like he managed to get rid of the boom anyway.

Well I can't say I'm that surprised that people don't give much of a toss, but I would have thought there would at least be a reasonable amount of media coverage. It's quite sad really, considering the impact that your foreign policy has on the rest of the world.
Is the live prime ministerial debate being televised over there? (It's the first time this has ever happened over here)

The American election was interesting because Thicko Bush couldn't get in again and it looked as though it could have been a women or (GOD FORBID!!!!!!) a black man.
Our election is between a toff ponce called Dave, a one eyed Jock who has a wierd mouth and someone no-one (prob not even his own party) has heard off.
But we have a Queen who rules the waves and the world so we win

most people in the UK don't care, so I don't see how we can expect other countries to care either.

I think, to consummate his crowning, a new king must copulate with the queen, and mr. blair finally exhausted all the loopholes that allowed an extension on the deadline to do the dead. When it came down to it and there was no way left to wiggle his way out, blair simply could not muster the courage to tee off into that arid sand trap.
Could you?

well I'm pretty much going to ruin the funnyness and shit going on itt but wtf else is new:
I doubt any of you all frequent drudgereport.com but the UK election's been featured rather prominently over the past several months, enough so that I know shit about David Cameron, the phrase "We Can't Go On Like This", Gordon Brown being a douchebag (actually already knew about this guy for quite a bit, having studied economic history and his role in keeping the UK out of the EURO, FWIW), and now some dude named Nick Clegg, who is an apparent overnight sensation.
BTW drudge is one of the most frequented news sites in the US, with about a billion unique visits in the last month... And Matt Drudge was cited as the U.S's 2nd most influential conservative over the past year by some mag who's name I can't recall atm...
tl;dr: yeah I'd say there's a pretty significant following of the UK general election within the US - just maybe not so much in the 18-30 age group most FTRers fall under. As far as foreign general elections go, it is probably the one "cared about" most by the US, or so I'd imagine
