Columbus has an Ultimate summer league. They have a design competition which I really want to win cuz then everyone in columbus will have a disc I made. Here's my design thus far
I'm going to add "CUDA" (Columbus ultimate disc association) above the city in an arc and "2007" either in the space below the river or in the river as negative space. I also need to add some negative space detail to the remaining buildings and the river. It has to be 2 tone.
This is the image I'm working from.
This is the first non-hack job design I've ever done. Any comments/ideas appreciated.

i like it. I think CUDA in big block letters w/ Columbus Disk etc etc smaller underneath it would look good straight across the top instead of following the arc. The overall design is very rectalinear and the 1 curve in the river gives the composition good balance. Post pics of the progress along the way.

I don't think the huge blue for the river is gonna fly because of this. Maybe add some waves in white to break up the blue and make it look like the river is flowing.

Or can you use your artistic skills to do some kind of reflection thing?
Also, if we're being anal, you probably need to round off the curve of the river, it looks a little scrappy.. Also, isn't this three tone or am I missing the point?
I really like it, though.

The gray square in the first one is for reference, it's the largest any solid area can be
I'm going to the bar, wanted to post this real quick. I hate the CUDA in the sky, it needs to be bigger and a different style (I'm trying to find a good blocky method). I like the 2007 in the water a lot. The water ripples suck right now, but I will break up the space with something similar. I'm eh on the purple right now, but not sure what color would be better.
I don't think it matters about the river because it's outside of the disc. If you're saying 3 tone because of the white, then technically it is 3 tone. The disc is white and there are 2 colors to be hot stamped on top.
I'm struggling with adding negative space to the remaining buildings and having it look good. FWIW, The deadline is Saturday.

I think the order goes in pretty soon after they decide. If anyone wants a disc if my design is chosen let me know and I'll try and order extra (likely $5-$8), lots of columbusites at FTR

This is pretty much my final design. I'm worried the river looks trashy, if anyone has any idea on how to break up that space I'm all ears. I played with other colors than purple but everything else looked way worse. I have time tomorrow to work on it if anyone has any good suggestions. Here's the full sized image if it helps:

I think it is pretty good. Maybe put a boat or raft-something floating in the river (I dont know how that would look, prolly bad) but that might break it up more.
If your design wins I definately want one.

it's sweet, but not working in BaraCUDA in some way seems -EV. Ooooh, BARACUDA!! Great, that's in my head now.
Consider scarlet and gray for OSU bonus points? Floating buckeyes? Oden stepping over the river?

For some reason when I thought reflection I was going to have to do a multi-color reflection. White space reflection, brilliant (bode and bio FTW). I have to touch it up because some of the lines and spaces are too small but I'm fucking excited by how it came out (a bit noisy but whatevs).
I think I'll submit 2 different color schemes, one similar to my orginal and one scarlet and gray

dont know if you have the time, but maybe try balancing the 2007 and the cuda a bit better. Its fine if the year goes over the reflection, as it would have to with the current position of cuda. You could change hte positon of cuda, however I like it as is, balances the buildings well. You might want to rotate the cuda to the left and down and 2007 up and to the right.
Also you could take the 2007 shrink it and incorporate it with the cuda, as is it looks a lil busy with the waves and relections and all in that area. one last thing, waves could use some work. There are a bunch of techniques to get a water effect, if you wanna play with it I suggest going smaller and going across the river, not down it. Also maybe try continuing the waves through the relections, this could get kinda tedious since youd have to swtich colors.
ok, lots of constructive criticism (I hope thats how its recieved) but all in all this is a really kick ass design. I love the look that you get drawing over a photograph, and you picked a damn good photograph for this technique. Im pretty sure youre gonna win, gg.

post a pic of the blue scheme w/ the building reflections. I like the idea of the scarlet/gray, but the blue looks much better IMO.

Final submission. Thanks boost for the ripple help. It was driving me crazy yesterday, I'm very happy with the result. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. The design would only be half as good without the help
