The internet is a awash with this kind of utter bullshit.
Anytime you see people using "macroevolution" to describe the fact the significant changes can happen to a species within a single generation, walk away. They are almost always creationists feebly attempting to use scientific terms they don't fully understand to support their ludicrous arguments that the earth has only been around for 4000 years.
If you want a real laugh search for Noah's Ark and some of the crass nonsensical "scientific" ideas various religious nuts are coming up with to "prove" that it really happened.

Debunking evolution would be like debunking gravity or germs or electromagnetism. I'm not going to comment specifically, but if OP or anybody has any specific questions about the development of biological organisms, let me know, and I'll gladly answer

DEBUNKING GRAVITY?! Why should i waste my time debunking something that DOESNT EXIST lol.
If gravity was real WHY arent we ORBITING MOUNTAINS?! And where is it in the Bible lol.
Think about it. Scientists want us to believe that the sun has a gravitation pull STRONG enough to keep a planet like NEPTUNE or PLUTO in orbit, but OH WAIT its not strong enough to hold THE MOON?!?!
These objects in space have yet to receive mans touch, and thus have no sin to weigh them down. This isn't the case for earth, where we see the impact of transfered sin to material objects. The MORE sin, the MORE weight. Any other ideas are just LIES, THE LIBERAL MEDIA AND THE DEVIL!!!
Jesus saves.

From rilla link
Quote:

One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it. [emphasis added]
|
It's called the Sun. Amazing. When this was pointed out, I'm sure there was no acknowledgment by the fundie
Also, check Poe's Law http://rationalwiki.com/wiki/Poe%27s_Law

This is just about the worst though
Quote:
Just recently my son Bobby came out to me. I had been worried for awhile. His teachers said most of his grades were slipping and he seemed depressed and withdrawn.
Bobby said he'd been hiding it for awhile because he was afraid I would reject him. I sat him down and told him that I loved him and that God loved him, but that his salvation was in danger if he did not resist his unnatural tempations. I told him how being gay would mean he would live a shorter life, and that if he couldnt change his orientation he could be celibate like most the ex-gays are. He started crying saying something along the lines of "I knew you wouldnt understand! You're just like everyone else!" before running to his room and slamming the door.
What did I do wrong? I dont want to lose my son, but I fear I already have. I talked it over with his therapist, who had the ludicrous idea that homosexuality was unchangable and that trying to repress could lead to lots of psychological damage (I've dropped him and will try to be finding another therapist with more moral beliefs). I wouldnt be surprised if he's the one who's feeding my son all the homosexual propaganda about how its 'ok' to be gay. That, or how homosexuality has engulfed the media, making it seem 'cool' and 'hip' and how they were just another oppressed minority. You didnt have to worry about seeing two men making out on tv at my age! I dont want to sound like a fanatic, but Im worried what other effects will come out of this increasingly secular, immoral society obsessed with filth.
Am I too late? Or is it possible to save my son
|
Her son killed himself. The mother then renounced fundamentalism, and became an activist for gay rights. I find this story so freaking sad.

I'm glad to see there were no "abortion is OK if she was raped" replies. If she was in fact raped, she must play the hand that was dealt to her, accept it as God's Will, and raise the interracial baby as her own.

Well, evolution has provided all humans with the ability to form sentences and think they're right. This type of thing is essential for survival. Developing abstract models and theories about reality based in fact is not something that has been chosen for by natural selection to any kind of large degree, so it's standard that we see people able to structure arguments around falsehoods yet be clueless as to said falsehoods. That is essentially what logical fallacies are: logics that seem logical, but really aren't because they do not conform to reality, despite the fact that they 'seem' like they do
Then you have the rare few who realize this, over many generations of diligent and ingenuous discovery, have developed understandings of basic logical principles and the knowledge gathering process, yet they use the very same language and argument structuring as the uneducated (because even the dumbest of our species is quite advanced in this arena), and this allows the uneducated to think they're on par
That, and ego

re wufs explanation. It really shows you how inadequate debates and back-and-forth arguments are for achieving a meaninful understanding.

They both can sound like they're very right and very understanding apparently on all issues. Could certainly convince me on the merits of both their points but leave me with no real ability to make a good decision.
And this is how we figure out how to elect presidents. Just seems like we're way off.

Absolutely right.
But that's because we stop there. Humans have evolved to place enormous amounts of gravity on their own intuition. This is great for the survival of the population in a primitive world, but it wreaks havoc on individuals in the developed world where abstraction plays a much more vast role in our lives.
Look at it this way: civilization is not 'natural'. Civilization is a very new phenomenon from which humans have evolved very little. Civilizations have elaborate networks of economies and social programs which our species has not spent much time evolving for. But the key is that these things are not based on intuition, but on induction and deduction, yet must of the population disregards this and still attempts to understand civilization using intuition.
This is essentially why there are so many problems within civilization. We elect stupid people because we stupidly assume that our intuition is capable of understanding non-intuitive issues like economics, and we reap what we sow.
The science in areas of politics is WAY ahead of what the public thinks. An example is that the public thinks that we don't know how to run economies that well. When in actuality, the truth is that we know how to run economies AMAZINGLY well, we just can't because the dumbfuck voters egotistically assume that their intuition is good enough to understand economics, and they elect individuals who cater to their ill intuition, and the result is in the type of economics we've been seeing. But if we put actual scientists in charge, people who understand epistemology and empiricism, we would see economies based on facts and results instead of 'common sense' maxims that make people feel warm and fuzzy, and these economies would but light years ahead of our current structure. And this isn't stuff we have yet to figure out, it's stuff we already know, but it's confined to academia and textbooks, and the public holds those in contempt since it tells them they're wrong
A very basic rule of thumb for all people should be: don't attempt to think that we have any fucking clue about a subject if we haven't done a ton of research on it. Our intuition is nothing. It is what provokes us to run away from tigers, make sex to women, or laugh at jokes; but it is not what provides us with any sort of understanding of complicated subjects. In fact, a rather striking discovery of science has been that intuition and 'common sense' plays zero role in truth and fact. If we're using intuition to attempt to understand abstraction, we're doing it wrong. Poker analogizes fantastically. We all know that correct poker play is counter-intuitive pretty much all the time, and those who rely on their intuition get creamed
Or look at it this way. The vast majority of humans are superstitious. This alone is enough testament to the reality of humans valuing intuition over logic and data, valuing feel over fact

There's a difference between ignorance and stupidity. Most of our elected officials are either ignorant or disingenuous on economic matters but they aren't stupid. If it were that easy to convince thousands or millions of people to keep voting for you even as you bring about no positive changes, why don't you go do it?
Still nice post mr. wufwugy.
