So my computer is kind fucked and what not and I am looking for a computer with its primary purpose of playing poker. Is there any chance I can get one for like $300 or less that would work for this? I understand I'd probably need to get a used one. I already have a monitor, external harddrive, keyboard and mouse if this helps in any way. I'll be using a wireless router fwiw. Any way this is possible? Any good sites for this? Any standard things I would need? I can probably pay somewhat more but fuck it I want it as least expensive as possible.

I see these on ebay a lot:

Thanks and sorry for being a dumbass. Move to a better forum btw if need be.

I think your best bet is to build it yourself, you should be able to get a low end dual core with 2gb of ram and cheapo video card for under $300.

Could always buy a barebone PC (case, motherboard and powersupply) for ~$100 pop in a cheap dual core for ~$50 and some ram fror ~50 and a cheap video card (or just use on board video if mobo has it), cheap CDDVD and be out for around $300.

If you want recommendations on parts
http://www.hardforum.com/index.php is where I get all my computer needs, if you feel comfortable building a comp yourself (it really is not hard) I would ask in the General Hardware sub forum there and they can recommend a good setup and you can order everything off newegg or what ever site.

If you have a spare copy of XP lying around your best bet is to make one. If you don't I would suggest going to BestBuy or box store and getting one there or maybe ordering a super cheap one from Dell. The one you make will be much better than one you buy, buy only if you have XP lying around. This is because makers like Dell and stuff get XP (usually around $90) for super cheap. So it works out to be about the same if you don't have XP.

mkay heres a nice $300ish computer that I would make if I were you.

CPU: AMD X2 5200+ $66

Memory: OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 800 $19
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227198

Hard Drive: Western Digital 160GB $50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136075

Power Supply: Silverstone 400w $41
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256032

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H $88
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128090

Case: Any ATX one $32
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811105003

Total comes to $298 after shipping. I guess you could add another 2gb ram if you wanted, but this is a pretty sweet setup for <$300.

EDIT: I forgot about the cd drive. Here is a cd/dvd burner for $23, but you could probably use the one that was in your old computer if you don't want to spend any more money.

Also what are the downfalls of getting one of those used computers in that ebay ad in my original post? Just curious.

Well first off its used (if its a Pentium 4, its prob atleast 2 years old), no warranty i'd imagine, except 30 Day Parts and Labor Warranty. If you buy at a retailer you would be getting more. Dont know about USA, but in my country its a 2 year warranty.

Yeah you would need something like this. I don't really know what are the good brands in wireless nics but this wone has a high raiting. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833315041

I guess you could choose something from this as well if you didn't want an internal card, but wanted something that connected through usb.
