Ok guys, I've got a problem and I want to see if I understand this right:
I own a SATA Hard drive, but I'm still using an XP disc I purchased forever ago that doesn't have any SATA drivers on it. Now I was searching the internet for some info on how to create a bootable DVD by streamlining my SATA drivers into an image of my XP and then re-burning that to a DVD.
I'm capable of that, and could probably stumble my way through it, *but* I found a thread that suggested that I could
1: Reformat my HD
2: Go to my Bios and turn off "native SATA"
3: Install XP
4: after full installation use my other CD to install the SATA drivers
5: Reboot, go to my Bios and turn on "native sata"
6: reboot again with no worries.

The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

No, if the SATA drivers are needed and not on the disk, the XP installation won't be able to see the SATA drive to install the system (assuming "native SATA" is your onboard SATA controller enable/disable option like it sounds like to me).
Adding the driver to the XP install disk is pretty easy (I use nLite), and it allows you to automate the install as well, as much as you want, eg. setting up time zone, networks, pre entering cd key, etc.
Then again, the way I figured most stuff out was trial and error. It won't hurt anything to try it with the option off, it just probably won't work.

I don't mind streamlining... the problem is A) Potentially wasted DVD's and B ) I don't think my wife has a dvd burner on her lappy, and mine is a 1000 dollar paperweight right now.

If it helps at all XP should only take a CD, even if you add service pack, patches, drivers, etc.
