there was a CRAZY guy named matt on my hall my first year. He was wasted/high all the time, so keep that in mind for all of this.
He was walking around outside some frats, he bumped some big black dude and got punched in the side of the head. He did nothing at the time, he wasn't hurt or anything, but after coming back to the dorm he grabbed two knives and walked back there with them open, took 3 people to convince him to stop and he was > half way back.
Couple weeks later, he was messing around wrestling with this guy on our hall, he flips out a little during wrestling and the guy had to kinda throw him down/hit his head on the wall to get him to back off and he gets knocked out for a little bit. A half hour later he proceeds to start yelling and screaming about who knows what, talking about how his dad bench presses 300 pounds and beats him. He then blocks himself in the bathroom, there's no lock on the door he's just pushing on it as hard as he can, then he stops and sits in the shower. He continues ranting about how he isn't a weakling, but his dad beat him and is super strong. he then rips all the shower curtains down and goes and pounds on our RA's door screaming "trey why don't you just have me arrested why don't you just kick my ass trey what the fuck", yelling it over and over. At this point he's been crying/has had snot all over for a while and who knows wtf else is wrong with him. Trey is a big dude, I think he was ROTC, and he was asleep..... So he's sitting there screaming at the door, trey answers looking like he's about to go apeshit and tells him he has 2 minutes to go to his room or he's calling the police. matt keeps screaming in his face, so trey calls the police, after which we shove him in his room and run like hell b/c the police are coming and we're all drunk. The police talk to him for 5 minutes and don't do shit.
A month later over spring break matt gets into a car accident, getting a DUI and breaking his arm.
The end.

When I was in college, two of my friends got mugged at gunpoint right outside my house (literally 15 feet from my front door).
Somebody robbed the corner store at the end of my street; one of the customers that was in the store tried to be a hero and got shot dead. This was at 3pm and I was in that store at about 2:45pm.
Down the block, on the way home from a liquor run, my roomate got assaulted by four 16 to 19 years olds that wanted the liquor. Fortuantely, they had no weapons, and my roomate, having several glass bottles handy, was conveniently able to fend them off by throwing the bottles at them. Unfortuately, he only had one bottle of liquor when he got home, instead of the three we paid for.
In a frat house about 1 block from where I lived somebody, (someone that was just visiting, didn't even live there) got murdered in the living room, when the house was full of people upstairs (they were awake too). The guy was just robbing the place, and the theory is he thought the downstairs was empty, didn't notice anyone there on his way in, and then when he saw him, killed him to get rid of the witness.
About 2 blocks away, someone was having a party in their basement and two guys with guns went down there and stole everybody's cell phones, everyone's wallets, and all the liquor.
In the dorms someone got raped and murdered in her room. For a while the janitor was a suspect, but later found mounting evidence that it was someone from the streets that broke in.

I went to school in Baltimore...which ties with Detroit as second in the nation in homocide rate (right after our good city of Washington, D.C. whih ranks #1).
