If you saw a can of fish in the grocery store labelled 'Red Herring' would you be suspicious

Am I the only one who read the OP and immediately thought of The Hunt for Red October?

I would expect to find smoked herring in the can as this is red in color and was used by foxhunters to divert their dogs from the hunt.
I would also be looking everywhere except the can of herring to see what I was being diverted from.

I once bought an Occam's razor. Well, I didn't buy it, I won it with a Loki's wager. The clerk didn't wanna pay up so he appealed to probability, but then I affirmed the consequent and he was like WTF strawman, but then I was like WTF non-sequitur and post hoc ergo propter hoc'd his ass

Red herring is a logical fallacy where the argument changes the subject. It is a valid argument, yet one that does not address the original issue. Look to politicians to see it used perpetually.
The things I mentioned like Occam's razor or Loki's wager are logical fallacies or logical principles.
