some guy in my class brought a modded ps2 to school and wanted to sell it for $60. I guess he bought a ps3. Modding costs about $100, so I had to pick it up. Modding allows the use of non-retail versions of games. However, since I am a good guy, and don't want this thread deleted, I'll just ask everyone to tell me their favourite games, for my personal interest and others personal interests only.

Socom 2 was the only PS2 game that I ever really really really loved playing. But that was because of the online aspects, which I am not sure how they currently exist since two other socoms have come out (both of which suck).
Suikoden 3, Suikoden 5, and Final Fantasy X are all good RPGs,

I heard FF12 is decent. I think my fav games for ps2 were metal gear solid games, tiger woods golf, and those dynasty warrior games.

Grand Theft Auto
SSX and SSX Tricky (never played 3)
I had fun with NFL street because you get to build and improve your custom team, the game play is okay
Bombastic (devil dice 2) is one of the best puzzle games ever

HITMAN 2 is the best game of all time on PS2. all other Hitmans suck ass since.
all FF games sucked balls tho i still bought em based on FF7 being quality. i bought so many game that were a waste of money.
MGS again was great but im bored with that series now. got MGS 3 and have hardly touched it.

obv the gta games..
besides that I think theres a metal slug collection released for ps2, get that. Oh and ico, best puzzle game that Ive ever played. Its last on my short list and Im too lazy to cut/paste it, but its def the first one you should grab. I thought this was one of the coolest most original games at the time. I might have to see if my ps2 still works and go find a copy of ico.

God of War is the best game evar!
God of War 2 just came out and it kicks ass as well...and the 3rd one is on its way to close out the trilogy...

Hitman 2 sucked for the PS2. So many parts of that game made me say "this game sucks." Considering its badass premise, this should tell you how bad it was.

Action: GoW, and GoW 2 for sure.
Music: Guitar hero if you have any remote interest in rock.
Adventure: Beyond Good and Evil is a bit less known but outstanding game.
Strategy: Culdcept, think monopoly crossed with MTG.
RPG: Jade Cocoon 2, granted it's a monster collecting type game, but there's a lot of depth and strategy for it.
There's plenty more that are worth playing, but those are my favorites.

well in my defense Hitman 2 was the first hitman game to be released on PS2. The original was on PC only as far as i know.
Amazing game, so amazing I wont listen to anyone who doubts it.
GOW could be great but honestly never played it.
LOL at Socom, i bought that and couldnt finish some level where you have to break into some prisoncamp and a chopper comes after you as you leave. FWIW, talking to yourself via headset was too weird for me to handle so i gave up.

Haha, that fucking level took me a week to do.. yeah +1 for all socom games. FF10 is goot, 12 iv'e seen little of but looks kinda lame.. gta games.

I've had every socom game (except socom 3.1 whatever it was called) and I never beat any levels in single playe... because the single player sucks...
Lukie, yeah that brings back memories, I put way to many hours into socom 2 but maybe it was worth it :P. Remembering it makes me sad at how much different socom 3 is  - Rats Nest (socom 1 version), Frostfire (socom 2 version) and Crossroads are the best.

Yeah, but don't u spend enough time on the comp?
At least with consoles, you can put your feet up and play games with your friends on your 60" TV. 
The day I discovered online poker was the day I stopped playing PC games.
