so im going to be buying a new comp within the next few days, and im just wondering what to get. i was just kind of messing around browsing the imacs out of curiosity, and i read a review saying that once you purchase a pc desktop ($600-$700), a nice monitor, nice keyboard/mouse, etc. that it will actually be just as expensive if not more than the imac. so im thinking pretty seriously about buying one. ive never had a mac, it will take some getting used to. i think what will be worst about owning one is being associated with the mac douches. tbh, their advertising scheme is fucking brilliant. after watching those commercials 1 million times, my resistance is breaking.

this is going to be a poker computer, although that may change depending on how secure i feel, but for now the plan is to do all my browsing and porn on my lap top.

but seriously i would like to know anyone that has an imac, if you could plz tell me how it might run compared to say, this acer.

also one other thing...i noticed on the 20" imac that there is only 1 gb of ram. idk what that means on a mac, but i know on a pc its not very goot. so how does that compare.

thanks in advance to anyone who helps out here.

Hold for just some more months, there is a lot of goodies on the way. I'm looking at buying one of these myself

http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/20/d...cs-new-casing/

You can pick up a 24" dell monitor dirt cheap too, just make sure its an ultrasharp if you care about color accuracy

bad thinking. Its an amazing machine. Give Caesar what's Caesar's. Most people who "associate you with Mac douches" are nothing but haters.

Seriously, if you decide to stick to the PC world, don't buy an Acer.

well, afaik, the suppliers wont have the option to put in xp, because microsoft is not selling it anymore, or something like that.

and the 'mac douche' comment was a joke .

I just got the 24" iMac and love it. My computer lifespan was about PC 10 years, then to Mac for 5 years, back to PC for 1 year, now gladly back to Mac.

After using both for a decent period of time and hating the "Mac douches" with a passion I think I can objectively say Mac is the better machine. Plus now it comes with Bootcamp so you can easily install Windows on it for your windows applications. It's just a much more solid machine. And it takes no real getting used to.

I got mine through the Apple Store. They have a sale on right now where if you say you're a student you get $200 off and a free iPod Touch.

Yeah that was actually a big reason why I went back to the PC. I just got it this week so I haven't even put Windows on it yet. My buddy just shipped me a copy of XP so I'm waiting for it to arrive. There are a lot of poker players that use Macbooks as their laptop of choice and they have no complaints from what I've seen so far..

You play only on Stars though don't you? Because Stars has a beta client for Mac now and I had no problems with it. But Windows is necessary for PT and PAHUD. But I honestly can't say for sure how Windows runs on it yet.

I know some iMacs used to have horrible display problems when they shipped. The new ones are probably fine, but I would be sure to check if you got one. When a user brought up the problem on an Apple support forum, Apple didn't reply to the thread and eventually started locking other threads about the topic. I don't know what Apple ever did about the defective displays.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Well yeah that's why I was able to switch back. But back then Macs were still built with the Power PC architecture and Windows didn't run easily on them.

Used PCs all my life, but I used to work at an Apple store. iMacs are amazing machines, as are all Macs (currently). However, I think you can get a PC with the same computing power for <1/2 the price of a Mac. If you are into desktops, BUILD YOUR OWN! If you don't want to build one (which you should its mad easy) get a notebook. If you are into notebooks, lenovo has some sick ones for mad cheap. www.lenovo.com I'm using one right now and it's titz.
My sig is too much for you to handle.

yeah i was looking at lenovo's actually. i already have a notebook, so theres no need to have 2.

apple stores scare me just a little bit. you get the feeling that there is a large machine in the back of the store that brainwashes the workers there. kind of like in that south park episode with the planetarium.

its not hard to build a computer. even if you had no idea what the difference between a hard drive and a keyboard was, you could do it. just google it and you'll find endless how-to's with pictures and baby step walkthroughs.

I used to loveto build computers too, however, its not worth it anymore for a small, general one. Too many headaches, and specially for the noobiest of noobs, a PITA.
Prefabs have become soooo much better over the years, and a hell of a lot cheaper too for what you are getting, assuming you do not want a boutique one (like voodoo, alienware, dell XPS, or my favorite: falcon nw, etc)

To paraphrase what I just said: "Dude, get a DELL!"

I'm gonna build me my media server soon though, I already got the case (an original Cooler Master CM Stacker 830, the dual power supply, 14 HD+ batch from way back), its my lovechild of a project

And also, i'm saving lotso monny now, the moment they stuff a quadcore into a 17" mac lappie (with LED backlighting, gotta have LED backligting if you want your lappie to last) i'm there like cake at a birthday party, bitch!
