Despite 8000+ posts on FTR, I don't think I've ever started a thread in the commune, but I wanted to express my sympathy for the 173 people who have (so far) been found dead, those who have lost a friend or relative and those who have lost their homes in the most lethal natural (or man made) disaster in Australian history. The death toll is expected to rise to over 200 once the final body count has been done.
What's even more disturbing is that it appears that some of the fires were deliberately lit.

I say onto you, I've felt the dragon! I felt the touch of his tail, the breath of his fire, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that the dragon exists!

It's bloody terrible. Some mates of mine have relatives that have been affected by this.
You see the true damage from the aerial shots taken by helicopter news crews. Everything is just black and grey, homes are reduced to nothing and it's really saddening seeing people walking around what used to be their homes.
Fucking cunts out there that lit some of these deliberately. If I had 5 minutes with them alone, FFS.

Yeah that was some unwell stuff. Some of the stories of survival people were telling were amazing. It was so fast and brutal people just didn't have time to get out (a couple of mins max). The weather that day was 46.4c (115f) in Melbourne city and hotter in the bush. Brutal.

15 minute drive from my house... scary. Horizon was red, air filled with smoke, copters flying over constantly.
