I'm hosting a blotto tournament on a tech forum I frequent, but I thought I'd post it here too.

Follow this link for my post on anandtech's forum about the tournament.

I'd appreciate if you register to bump the thread if you enter, but it's not the end of the world if you don't. Really want to generate some interest..

Edit: up and running again

Ahh AT is down for maintenance. Do check later though. Blotto is fun. Here's a copy of the original post:

ATOT Blotto Tournament

I’m thinking of hosting a Blotto tournament for ATOT. If there are enough entrants, I’ll sponsor some prizes. For now I’ll guarantee a $30 cash first prize by paypal or mail, whatever the winner wants.

In game theory, classic blotto is a game in which players assign finite (say 100) resources to a set of N castles (in this example, 10). Whoever assigns more men to each castle wins all of the points that the castle is worth (10 points each here). If the players assign the same number of men, they split the value of the castle. For example, suppose Steve and Alice play the following:

S, A
10, 10
10, 10
9, 10
11, 10
11, 10
11, 10
8, 10
5, 10
10, 10
15, 10

Steve wins castles 4, 5, 6, and 10. Alice wins castles 3, 7, and 8, and they split the other 3 castles. Steve earns 55 points to Alice’s 45.

___________________________________________

For our first round (I’m thinking we’ll play about 5 rounds), we’re going to try a simple variant of classic blotto. Each person will have 100 men to assign to castles 1 through 10, and the castles are worth 1 through 10, respectively. Players will receive half the value for ties. To enter, send your 10 numbers to atotblotto@gmail.com with “blotto round 1” as the subject. The body can just be your 10 numbers. If you accidentally use more than 100 men, I’ll find a way to trim it down..

Your score will be your average against all the other entries. The tentative deadline for the first round is 2 days after I receive 12 entries, or 7/20, whichever comes first.

I’m thinking I will eliminate few or no people in the first round, but ranking better will increase your chances of winning the tournament. Spread the word. If you have friends that you think would find this interesting, point them here.
