When are these jackass millionaires going to stop potentially ruining their careers because they feel the need to jack around on motorcycles all the time?

oh jeez, as much as I hate the steelers, I wouldn't wish this upon anybody.

I just checked out the Browns message board, and saw this:

Roethlisberger hurt in motorcycle crash

Monday, June 12, 2006
By Michael A. Fuoco, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured when his motorcycle was involved in a crash on the 10th Street Bridge today.

Roethlisberger was injured shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Second Avenue side of the bridge near the Armstrong Tunnel.

Steelers' spokesman David Lockett confirmed Roethlisberger was involved and is being treated at Mercy Hospital.

An eyewitness said she saw a motorcycle headed outbound on Second Avenue as a car was coming inbound. The car made a left turn toward the bridge in front of the cyclist. The motorcycle hit the car and the operator flew into the windshield and then hit the ground.

The witness said she went to the aid of the motorcyclist and asked his name. He said it was "Ben" and tried to get up, but she told him to stay still.

The victim was bleeding heavily from a head injury.

Roethlisberger has been known to refuse to wear a helmet when operating his cycle.

I was at the gym at the same time as Aaron Smith (another Steeler) who was none too pleased when he heard the news.

Yah, its been a little bit of a story in steeler country, the fact that Ben motorcycles sans helmet. Terry Bradshaw publically called him an idiot for it like a year ago. In any case, they say he bounced his head off the chicks windshield, then rolled over the car and slammed into the ground and that there was blood everywhere.

He's now in surgeory. I tell yah, without Ben, we'll have a hard time comming in 3rd in our division this year.

Smithers, use the amnesia ray.

The duty of shamelessly mocking a man in serious condition in the hospital from head trauma simply because of a football rivalry had to be done. And I'm just the asshole to do it.

Obviously karma for Carson Palmer's injury.

I think it's ridiculous that it's illegal to not wear a seatbelt in a car but riding a motorcycle without a helmet is ok.

"In the US, approximately 23.5 million children travel on one of the 450,000 public school buses for an estimated 4.3 billion miles a year. Each year, an average of only 10 school bus occupants die in collisions. In fact, statistics show that children are at greater risk of injury or death from boarding or disembarking from a school bus than from riding in it."

Without a seatbelt in a car theres a pretty good chance you will kill the person sitting infront of you. If you fall off a bike without a helmet you probably just kill yourself. I dont know if this is the reason, but if it isnt then it should be.

Also I think in general bikers are more aware of the dangers than people sitting as passengers in cars so most of them would probably wear a helmet even if they didnt have to.

It's a law that you have to wear a seatbelt because the government has a vested interest in keeping you safe. They want you paying taxes for the rest of your life as opposed to paying for your hospital bills and disability for the rest of your life. Motorcycle riders are such a small percentage of the population that they really don't care.

Hard to swallow, but that's the biggest reason.

Personally, I believe it's not our job to force people to protect themselves. If they want to take unneccessary and stupid risks for the sake of comfort, let them.

rilla,

To be honest, I agree in principle with what you are saying, but I think it's a good law. Too many people are so stupid and think they are so cool that they ride around without a seatbelt. It's just retarded. I know several people that have been in very nasty car accidents that survived (with minor injuries) because they were wearing their seatbelts. Err, no, scratch that, the one that wasn't wearing one got killed.

In Ohio you have to wear it in the front seat, but you don't have to in the back seat.

In washington its a $200 fine if you get caught not wearing your seatbelt. i honestly could careless since i always wear mine but i dont think its appropriate for the state to say what risks we can and cannot take if it has no effect on others.

I don't necessarily agree with this. I do agree that adults should be free to do what they wish and that includes wearing/not wearing a seatbelt. But I don't think teenagers and younger should be able to make that decision for themselves. And how easy do you think it would be to enforce a law that all kids under a certain age need to buckle up? Besides the fact that if adults don't wear seatbelts, do you think their kids will?
